May I suggest posting in the misc classifieds and say WTB tach, unless you have done that already, and tell them you are looking for like new, and willing to pay up to 50 shipped.

Be careful to buy used, hard to know if it is damaged.

But I feel the two you have listed should work, I have only seen people with the MA tach.

good luck,

never used the first one but I have the second one and its mainly for airplane props I could not get an accurate reading on my heli
but they say it will work

this is what I use on my heli
http://www.readyheli.com/Optical_He...ch_p/804260.htm

and an optical tach is safer to use

You need to find a tach that you have to look through then some one can do the taching while you hover.
The ones you listed are to hold in front of a plane prop.
The thing is you need the heli to be flying if you want a true reading and that is a bit on the dangerous side if you use a plank tach, what ever a good tach cost is less than what it wil cost to reconstruct you face or pay for a funeral because you tird to save some money and used the wrong tools.

Life is like a bath, the longer you stay in it the more wrinkled you get.

This is what you should get. I have one and it works great.

They come across the classifieds occasionally, but I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for one.

They meaning when I bought my cheep one from the place that he listed the website for! as I stated I could not get it to work on my heli and listed the one that works well for me.

I was saying they said it would work but it wont guess I should have expanded on it

I run my Raptor 50 at 2050 with carbon blades and it can do anything you can throw at it. I don't go any higher than 2150 on my 50s.

Anytime

I would run them somewhere around 1800 and below 1900 for sure. Be carefull with them, they flex more than carbons and could cause problems with hard 3D. Make sure you are running stiff dampers in your Rappy. Keep an eye on your headblock too if you are running the plastic one. It can develop slop on the main shaft pretty quick when you start throwing it around.

Thats the only kind I use....
If they didnt work they would not be for sale on a heli site..

I remember when sky tach could not read more than 2500 and I used mine to tach all the electrics.

One advantage it has is the drum style tach loose it accuracy as the battery dies. I have never changed the batteries in mine in many years.

I use a gov so I just set it on the ground standing against my starter and turn it up until I get the number I want.

just my .02

Even the old skytachs that read up to 2500 can do any RPM we run on our helis. If you heli is running 3000rpms, you just run the skytach at 1500 and double the number on the readout (it just catches the blades every 2 revolutions instead of each one). Even though mine only goes up to 3100, I have used mine to tach my Trex at over 3400.

I am curious about it losing accuracy as the battery dies. We have 2 of these at our field and we have tached the same heli with the exact same headspeed readout on our skytachs... and I would bet our battery power was not exactly the same. It is possible an almost dead battery might give a false reading, but I don't think they become less accurate as the battery goes down (to a point).

I use the eye tach but take main gear and divide the pinion into it .ex. 85 Divided by 11 = 7.72727272727 (7.73) Are you sure it is a 11 tooth pinion or a 10 tooth . 10 tooth is 8.5

http://www.heliproz.com/prodinfo.asp?number=804260 Ive used this on for over 6 years with no problems well worth the investment.

I stole it ,flew it and gave it back ;)
