Just finished my TT MD500 Fuse . Went out to the field today , To try and find the right head speed . But , I must be getting old . It was Cold . LOL OKAY it was only 30 degrees , light wind . Will try again another day .
Can someone make a good starting point for a head speed ?
The TT Manual says to set at 1300 - 1400 rpm .

sounds about right. If you get a wobble increase the HS if you get vibration decrease HS

yep, just like marc said.
what i lke about the big bore engines,(60/90) when it comes to scale, you can run a really low head speed and get away with it. they have so much power and torque even at the low rpm range. scalers lok so much nicer when the head speed is low to moderate, they dont guzzle the gas as fast, they are less intimidating, and they tend to be quieter. unfortunately that isnt always the case. it can also make the controls feel mushy and that sucker can start to run hot.
some important things like blade design, cooling system, nitro and oil content and weight has to be near perfect to get that perfectly running scale head speed.

What is the best way to tint the windows ??
I used some Pactra window tinting paint on the side windows . But didn't have much luck. The tint paint ran , evan after very light fog coats . after all was said and done , I just had to black out the side windows .
I want to tint the front window , just not so much I can't see the RX Bind lights . What should I use ????

If you can remove the windows, try "RITT DYE". It is a clothing dye available @ your local grocery store. It will take a good while but you can control the darkness by time immersed. Green tint, use green dye, Black tint, use 2 black to 1 blue (havn't tried that one but read it a few times). I have used green with success.
I have used "TESTERS" Transparent blue spray paint. It too is very thin viscosity and difficult to apply well. I have found success with it by applying in 3 thin coats in quick (non flashed) succesion. The trick is to position the finished window upside down for the cure cycle. This way the runs, which DO appear, will run to the edges and drip off. This leaves a nice consistant tint finish.
PS. Carefull application of Laquor thinner can be used to remove a botched painted tint job. Just test it on equivilant piece of scrap window first to insure compatability.

To go along with that as long as you're painting from the inside on the windows you will still have a glossy look from the outside, this way your finish isn't ruined if you strip the paint, as was said just be careful. You don't want to get any on the outside or it's shot.

BTW, nice looking heli! I've been thinking about buying another one just for flying around.

FWIW, I tried the Rit dye on my TT MD530, and it didn't take at all. I don't know if TT is using a different plastic material?? I used the Tamiya tint spray. It doesn't look great from the inside when done, but it looks fine from the outside.

hey that looks familiar
mine is the century fuse and they came with the tint. wish they werent so dark though or not tinted at all as i have my preference on the level of tint. i have used the candy colors from the tamiya paints in the past with much sucess.

I recall many years ago that I used the pactra metalic paints ,Ruby Red, Safire blue and emerald green. Heating the can under hot tap water helps the spray atomize better for a more uniform thin coat. Sprayed in a thin coat it looks good from the outside. Also adds a unique hint of metalic sparkle.

I once tryed the RIT dye on a window set. Horibly ruined them as the hot water/dye warped the plastic windows terribly.

I had some time today with the weather being cold , not much happening at work . So , I made up a mini gun . Its not scale to the MD500 . It is just a mock-up ,just trying to figure out how to make them . didn't have many pics . so it's just a proto-type .

I think the gun looks great as is. As long as you put the right finsh on it I'd say it's ready to go to work. Great looking heli too! Crewdogg
