A quick question. I have an OS 50 and a YS 50, both are installed in 600Ns, so they're not readily available to me...

I've been asked if the OS 50 SX-H/Hyper crankshaft threads are the same as the YS50ST threads. Since I don't have easy access to the cranks, I need to ask the question here.

Are the threads the same or not?

Thanks

I think the YS-50 is the same as the OS. When I installed the YS 50 in my Sceadu a while back, the nut from the YS was too think and interfered with the clutch, so I used the one from the OS, and it was a perfect fit, so obviously the same threads. All other YS cranks differ, but I think they did the -50 to the OS standard to that they could just "drop in" with no different hardware.

I know that one the 90 size engines the threads are NOT the same. Raptor has a fan for OS (which comes with the kit) and I had to buy a YS fan, because of the threads.

The question was asked of me by a fellow who has Raptor experience, who's looking at a new heli, and is afraid he needs to buy a different clutch for a 50 heli.

So I have a YES, they're the same, and a NO, they're different. I'm in the same boat I started in....

I tend to believe Heli770, since he was at least able to give me thread sizes.

Well, I don't know what Heli770 makes his declaration based on, but I *CAN* say with zero doubt that the YS dropped in in place of an OS on my Sceadu with no different parts, and the nuts were the same thread . . . and I *DID* use an OS prop nut on the YS, since the YS nut did not clear the clutch, and the OS nut was thinner. Definitely the same threads . . .

8mm is correct on the other YS stuff - I can personally verify that from hands on experience as well . . .

I went to both YS and OS sites to verify it and it's still the same.

Edit: as I had posted.

Please show me where this is listed definitively on the YS page, specifically for the YS-50. And I take it to also mean that you have never held both engines in your hands to make the comparison?

Then please be advised that the YS-50 is the notable exception to the YS lineup, in that the shaft size matches the OS-50. I am not aware of any other YS engine with an SAE sized crank thread . . . .

You are right. The YS site I was at was not YS but a retailer. Sorry!

I had previously gone to the YS parts and service site, found nothing to indicate the size of the thread. I had a similar experience with OS, not able to find a definitive answer.
