SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) -- California will not pay tax refunds for individuals and business that overpaid 2008 taxes, in order to conserve dwindling cash for priority payments including school spending and debt repayment required by state law, the state's controller office said Friday.

Other state checks to be postponed for 30 days include payments for vendors who provide services and products to the state government and state checks to a million aged, blind and disabled Californians to cover rent and utilities bills, State Controller John Chiang's office said in a statement.

Just remember -- if the world didn't suck, we would fall off.

Maybe the people should stop sending their tax payments in to the State "in order to conserve dwindling cash for priority payments and debt repayment".

The republicans will not budge, no tax increases. Liberals need to learn that while the voters are cutting back and making tough choices, so does government. Of course they threaten to cut all the basic services and never the fat state pensions or 14 paid holidays. Hope the Republicans stand their ground. Maybe the state can go bankrupt and be forced to re-establish all the fat pensions at a much lower level, after all, I have no pension and no 14 paid state holidays on top of my vacation.

keepin' it real

No doubt about it.

A sign of massive mismanagement.

What Stet is saying is fact. The demos want to tax us more the repubs dont the rebubs want cuts in pensions and to cut useless programs the dems dont they want increases in pensions etc. The govoner has imposed a 2 day a month thing for only while this is going to that state workers dont work to try and help save some money the dems are suing and the unions are suing him no matter what I want the state to go bankrupt then they will have to reorganize and then maybe then it can get back on the road to recovery. Cut the crap out and it will be fine.
