hi
i have been making a new yoke and control system for my Century P gasser , and thought i would post some photos here

the design is based on the Hirobo Quark yoke that has a 45 degree offset , and the control system is based on the TT Mini Titan

i am using the Titan control setup because it moves the mixer arms from the blade grips down to the flybar carrier , since the yoke is tweeked over 45 degrees , it was not allowing the linkages to hook up correctly , and moving the mixer arms down cured this

this whole mod is based on some experiments i have been doing implementing the Quark 45 degree yoke over to other machines , first i did a Century HBCP , and then i tried it on a TT Mini Titan , since both of these were successful i decided i would go to the Century P gasser as the next step

That is too Cool! Wish I had the capabilities to do something like that. We want a full flight report as soon as it's flyin'. . .

hi
thanks guys , it has been a really fun project , and five days of hobbying that didn't need the Visa card once , i got it all mounted last night and it is looking good , i have been checking it against the TT mini and the HBCP and everything seems to be working right , we are still in the single digit temps here so i don't know when i will get a chance to try it , that is hobbying in January , here are some photos

Hi Dana
Looks awesome and I’m sure it will work as intended when you get the chance.
Have you applied for a patent No

I guess I have never seen the mini-titan head close before because I have never seen a flybar that wasn't perpendicular to the main grips.

That strong angle on the link that goes from main grip to carrier looks like a weak spot.

Your work is fantastic and in no way was any of this verbage ment as derogatory, you quite the machinest!

hi Tom
the Mini Titan has the flybar at 90 degrees to the spindle , like most all RC helis , it is the Hirobo Quark that cants the spindle forward 45 degrees , like we see on most coaxials , Hirobo has come up with sort of a hybrid flybar-stabilizer bar , and if you get a chance to fly a Quark , jump at it as they are really amazing little flyers

i got a chance to fly one a while ago and was totally amazed by how stable it flew , and looking closely at the system , i had an idea that it was due to the 45 degree cant in the spindle

so i had a Century HBCP that had Bell Hiller mixing and i was carefull to go over all the links , so it was silky smooth , it had good servos and a good gyro , and i spent some time experimenting with various length flybars , and flybar weights , and i can honestly say it flew poorly at best , you had to work hard to keep it in a 3 foot box , and it would pitch this way and that , so you had to constantly chase it

so this was pointing to the 45 degree cant as what was making the Quark such a great little flyer , so i bit the bullet and made a new yoke for the HBCP

and the difference was night and day , with changing just the yoke , the machine now would lift straight up into a stable hover and just kind of hang there as though it was hanging on a string , you could go into forward flight and at any point if you let go of the sticks , it would just level out into a stable hover , as though it had electronic stabilization on it , needless to say , i was hooked

i was very interested in trying this with one of my gassers , but thought i should work my way up with small steps , so i tried it on a Belt CP , Murphy steps in here , and i manage to advance the flybar and not the spindle , when i try it , i find out there is no change in its handling and i was disapointed , but given a few weeks to think about it , i realize that i had made a mistake , and advanced the flybar and not the spindle ( it all looks about the same )

once i saw that i had just messed up with the Belt CP , i decided to go ahead with the Mini Titan , this time being carefull to pay attention , and it is like the Century HBCP , very smooth and stable , but still flies great outdoors

what i learned , by messing up with the Belt CP , is that the only difference between these yokes and the stock yokes , is that the spindle is advanced 45 degrees , the flybar timing is all stock

let me add , i am only a sport flyer ( FFF & stall turns ) , and that is all i have tried doing with these machines , so i have no idea how it behaves in more aggressive flight , but one thing i like about the mod is it only involves changing out some parts and can be put back to stock at any time

the big plus , for me at least , is it is like instantly adding about five points to my confidence level and the machines become very fun to fly , cheers

.

Hey Copperclad,

First off thanks so much for taking the time to write such a detailed reply. Not that it means much coming from me but I'm very impressed by your ingenuity and persistence. I myself am now learning to 3D or so I think I am. I find that the Predator and my 90 sized electric are both plenty stable I now just have problems with mechanical failures, ie servos, tail pitch arm falling off and now a lockout/low voltage problem on the 90 electric after some 200 plus flights. I now have a new anxiety to overcome, "what will go wrong next!" I still get in uncomfortable positions with the heli but only try that stuff "two mistakes high" always thinking of "my way out".

I hope this gives the results your looking for and will be watching this thread closely.

Hi Tom
yes , i am thinking , for the guy that is into 3D , this head would be a step in the wrong direction , i can see it being nice for the lazy sport flier ( like me ) and perhaps AP or UAV

i got started thinking about it after flying a Quark , and curiosity has taken me this far with the project , i am very interested in seeing it loop , but have to admit , i am still too much of a chicken

there has been a rumor on the Hirobo forum , that they will release a Quark 3D , but it has to be taken as just another rumor , it would be interesting to see it though , thanks again
