Although not many people reccomend the -8, I have been running mine for quite a while on 4S. I have also run the -10 at the exact same headspeed (verified with a tach) and it didn't have the torque of the -8 on 4S. The -10 was more efficient, but it didn't have the same power.

Some questions for you.
What's your headspeed? Curve or gov? How were your flight times on both setups? Does the -8 runs cool or hot?
Thanks you

Keep in mind, I run this on a Trex not a Rave, but I still would suspect similar results. The -8 runs cool (around 120). I fly 5 1/2 mins on the -8 setup and I could get over 6 on the -10.... but like I said, the torque difference was very noticeable. I just run woodies most of the time, but when I run carbons, they are more efficient and flight times can be longer.

This flight used 1800mah (with woodies) and you can see he was pushing it pretty good.

Watch at YouTube

Headspeed was a little over 3300 in this vid (85% flat idle up) but now I run 3200 governed for slightly longer flight times.

Woww 3d on woodies!! Very nice flying Funky, I like your rolls circle, first time I see this in video.
Good infos.
About difference between Rave and Trex, the main is 350 blades instead 325's, but at similar headspeed. So I think battery is more solicited because of bigger blade surface. I read guys here have got 4.30-5.00 mn in 350/4S-2200/-10 setup. So with 2221-08, I think it can be under 4.00 mn isn't it? Very hard to choose!!

It is my buddy flying my heli... I wish I could fly half that good

Both seem to be good motors. If you aren't looking for every drop of power, I would go with the -10. If you want every bit of power, go with the -8.

It's always a pleasure to see your own heli flown by a master
These Scorpions are really good motors for the price. All videos I've seen are impressive. The -6 is terrific, but flight times are very very short.
There is a motor which can be very interesting on Rave: The Neu 1107H/2Y. From what I've read, it's very powerful and efficient, and I think flight times can be increased.
The downside is the price of course, and the weight: 105 gr. With it the Rave will be really nose heavy, except with servo mount on tail boom, which can help to get better cg.

JSX,

I'm not sure exactly why you believe the -6/3S setups have "very very" short flight times. IMHO, that applies only to those who fly hard 3D continuously.

My Rave with 325's and the -6/3S setup gets between 5:30 and 6:00 flight times with around 75-80% battery usage (FP 2170mah). I fly both mild 3D and FAI (High Speed) style flying. It really depends on how hard (and how long) you are on the collective and cyclic controls that really use up the batteries. Hovering and gentle 3D flying can get you around 6:30 on the -6/3S setup (timed flights).

It's because some videos of the rave in 3S are about 2.30 flight times, and 4S are 4.00 mn. I don't want to make hard 3D, more Fai/mild3D/fast flying like you. But it makes me an idea of power comsuption.
Now it's too late, all my 3S lipos are selled How long flight times can you do with FAI/mild 3D style on a 350/4S-2200? 7 or 8 mn?

A little presentation in video
It's my 3DX450/F after one year of FP and one month of CP. I want to keep fast flying style but want to learn and mix more Fai style aerobatics, and 3D tricks. After two months on the 3DX, I make better flips, loops, rolls, and start tictocs. So I'm always a beginner 3DX450/F.

JSX,

Running 350's with a Scorpion -10/14T/4S (OUTRAGE 4S 14.8V 2200mAH 25C) with the head speed around 3440, I'm getting 5:30 flight times doing mild 3D and FAI style (high speed) aerobatics. And this uses a little less than 80% capacity of the 4S pack. And, a lowered head speed will no doubt use less battery capacity.

I think the videos you've watched with flights at 2:30 probably may not represent a typical flight using a full 80% capacity of a 2200mah 3S battery pack. The same goes for the 4:00 on 4S 2200mah packs. I think most of us try to be conservative on battery usage just to improve the longevity of the battery packs.

Your flying looks good and you should have longer flight times than most pilots doing hard 3D.
