My buddy just purchased a new 600N. He is an advanced planker but this is his first heli. He wants good servos but does not want to spend $140 a piece and my experience is pretty much only with JR8717's or the Futaba BLS series.

What's a good medium priced metal gear servo that he will not outgrow?

9452 would be fine, heck, the old standard 9252 works well in the 600N. This is his first heli, I wouldn't be worried about him outflying the 9252 anytime soon. That and the 9254 will take him a long way.

One of my 600Ns has 9252s, the other Hitec 6975's. They work fine for me and for a ton of other flyers out there.

Spend You're money once and wisely. Go with the Align 620 or 610 and get the 8717 performance with the less expensive price.

From what I understand you are not going to get JR precision and quality with Align servos. They may be fast, but I imagine they are sloppy in comparison. Just a thought.

the 610 and 620s are good servos but they are not 8717s they are fast and center well but 8717s are better in centering and faster but the 610s and 620s are still very good servos

Another vote for 9452s... they are great servos when you can't justify the cost of 8717s.
