Hi from France
I've read almost 50% of the Rave topics since yesterday, so now I write my own I'm very pleased to make it
A little presentation
My name is Jean (John), I'm 32 years old and start flying RC planes and gliders at 13 years old. After a very long break of ten years, I started Heli with a Honey Bee FP 1.5 year ago. I tuned it with Bruhless and belt system, and it was able to make great aerobatics. After that, I buyed a 3DX450/F and flyed it 2 months. I runed it with Z10A/3S/phoenix35. Great setup for sport flying, but not enough power to my taste. It's ok for flips, loops, rolls, but very just for tictocs. And some belt problem since one month on the 3DX makes me crash and cause me awful headaches
I really love heli, it's increase day by day So I want a better Heli, a nice built machine with great quality parts, and very great flight capabilities. So....at first I look at the G5, then the Trex500....then G5, and then the RAAAAAAAVE
I felt in love with this Heli when I saw the real first videos. Lot of qualities in this little machine.
So I decide to sell my helis to have enough money to buy the Next-D.
Because... I want my Rave to come true In France we call a "dream" a "rêve", and we pronounce it almost like "rave"
So in one week or two my dream will come true
Now some setups discussion

I kept some of my electronics to install them in the Rave:
-CC Phoenix 35
-Hobbywing Ubec
-Logictech LGT2100T
-Z10A for try it with 4S

I sell my 3 HS65MG to buy digital servos because I want more torque, speed and precision, and in case of a future fbl conversion. I'm on budget, so I'll go with 3 Align DS410. I've got one and it's very powerfull and fast. On the tail, I will buy a DS520 for the same reasons. Certainly JR3500G is better, but too expensive for me. DS520 has good specs and feedback.

At the begining, I want to run the 325 blades because of the Phoenix 35. Later I'll buy a 45 ESC and certainly go with 350. So I think I'll try to deal with shop to replace the 2221-6 in the kit by a 2221-08. In 3S setup it will be more cool with my ESC and flights time, and it offers the possibility to run 4S lipos on 350 blades later. If it turns under 50000 rpm of course, I've read topics conscienciously

My level is not extreme, I make loops, rolls, immelmans, flips and start tictocs. On sim, I make inverted flying and my first chaos (it's a great feeling)
So I think that start on 3S, learn 3D tricks, and later switch on 4S is a good approach, and I learn quickly because of my plane/glider past.

That's all Your comments on my setup project is very welcome.

Jean

Thanks pilots I'm very pleased to be a new member here. It's my first english-speaking Heli forum
I think I will buy the Rave at Powerhelis, they have the 10% off for new customers and free crash kit. I mail them about the 2221-8. I hope it will be ok.

Hi
I'll make my order at the beginning of the next week, and if everything is right, I'll start buiding my Rave at the beginning of February : )

So here is my list:
#Rave kit 4S setup 2221-10/350 blades
#Some basic parts:
> 1 Bevel gear set
> 1 Bevel tail gear set
> 1 cross shafts set
> 1 flybars set
> 1 hardened main shafts set
#New tools:
> Ball link sizer, pliers & driver
> Hex-wrench 1.5~3.0 mm multi-driver
> 5.5 mm nut driver
> Tri flow oil
#Radio:
> Spektrum Reveiver Voltage Protector
#Batteries:
> 4 Flightmax 4S 2200 mah 20 C
> Maxpro Liposavers

About electronics in my possession:
> Phoenix 35
> Hobbywing Ubec 3A/6V
> Align DS410 Digital X 3 (0.09s/2.2kg)
> Logictech LGT2100T
> Align plate + double-tape pads set (like spartan's one)
> Align DS520 Digital Coreless (0.07s/2.5kg)

What pinion are you going to run on your scorpion V8 motor?

14 or 15 tooth?

Thanks,

Dan

The Align 520's may be too big and the 410's too small. I believe the 520's are designed for a 500 size heli and I thought the 410's were for the Trex 250. Not sure about the 410's though.

The 410's will work. The trex 250 uses 450 sized servos. My trex 250 has 5065's in it.

Thanks,

Dan

Hi,
I've got only one 14 T, I need to purchase one more. It's for 2221-10.
I've got many 13t and 15 T.
DS410 is for Trex 250 and Trex450 cyclics, so it's ok.
DS520 is for Trex 500 rudder. It's 35 x 15 x 29.2mm, Futaba S9257 is 35.5 X 15 X 28.6 mm and Jr 3500G is 33mm x 27mm x 15mm. Weigth is 25 gr in all cases. So there's no problem. I received this servo today, very nice quality and absolutely no slop in the head.

Yes I know. This is why I'll use 13 T with +/- 11° pitch only at the beginning and increase these parameters slowly. I'll buy a Phoenix 45 at the end of February if necessary.

Or perhaps can I sell the CC35 and castle link....
How compare Scorpion 45 commander V2 with Phoenix series? They are affordable. One thing I don't like is Governor mode allows 50, 60, 70, 80, or 90 percent throttle, not the exact desired value. And it's heavy with 41 gr !!!! But 60 $ is a cool price. CC45 is 100 $.

I run a CC35 on my T-Rex 450 4S for over a year. The current is actually much less than 35 Amp on 4S. The Eagletree recorder only shows a max current draw of around 30A. I was running 3200 rpm headspeed on my T-Rex 450 doing crazy things at the time.

I would say if you are running 3S, get a bigger ESC. If you are running 4S, the CC35 is fine.

The latest governor mode on CC is very nice, you only need to tell the ESC the motor KV, # of poles, # of lipo cells, pinion, main gear then tell it what speed you like to run, it will set it up for you.

I fly governor mode on my Rave and T-Rex 450 now.

Yes thanks for info But don't you think 350 blades draw more amps? It's the problem with these blades, I think run them at same HS and Max/min pitch than 325 blades will really increase draw amp, because blade surface is bigger. So perhaps 45 esc is necessary with 350/4S setup. I think I'll try to sell my CC35 and Z10A in combo, and then buy the CC45. No problems after that, +/- 14° if I want
Castle link software is really excellent. I like precise ESC timing setup too. Lots of parameters!!

Hi,
I ordered my Rave today !!!!!!! Order status: "dispatched". I'll receive it tuesday or wenesday.
I dealed with the shop to have 4S kit setup >> 2221-10 & 350'
After two months without touching sticks except with sim, after all these belt issues and crashes, after this so frustrating period which begin when I was making my first tictocs, I'm going to pilot in a few days the 450's cream of the cream !!!! Wowww, these belt issues are finally not a bad thing, I sold a 3DX and go to a Rave instead !!
