Thats a great question. It depends on the student really. You can legally get your license in 40 hours of flight time, although it is more likely that you will get it in around 55-65 hours on average. I got my done in 56 hours. Most helicopter school charge around 250-300 an hour for flying. Aside from flying, you also need ground lessons to compliment your flying.

If you were a full time student, you can have your private license in around 2-3 months. I did a lot of research on which school to go with to become a helicopter pilot. I found a school in Hawaii called Mauna Loa Helicopters. It was very inexpensive and had so many things to offer that other schools didn't.

For my private license I spent just under 20K for all of my ground training, flight time, and housing, books, etc. I completed it in 2 1/2 months. By far the best time of my life. I have decided to continue with my career as a pilot and am now training for my commercial license. Feel free to shoot me a message if you have any more questions. Its really hard to get a straight answer about training to become a helicopter pilot.

It is seriously 100 times more exciting than flying RC helicopters. I have learned so many things that have blown my mind! Who would have ever thought you could get paid to do something you love. I can't wait!

Tic Tocs....I don't know about those. But autorotations is the real deal baby! And that is some off the wall sh*t, let me tell you!

What servo's are the best for an R-22?

Sorry, I couldn't resist!

That is actually super cool. I've got the pull to do that also. I just wish I had the gumption.

Your arms act as the servos in the R-22.

Forgot to ask earlier, did you go with the Outrage or Thunder Power bats? Seriously though, what's the flight time & distance on a tank of fuel or is it included in the "rental" fee?

I have alot of customers from the Big island as I work for Kauai Toyota. Most of the "K" plates you see are from me. Wow, I envy you for being able to become a real heli pilot. I don't care for heights so I guess it's a good thing I do RC. BTW, how much expo are you running?

Very nice! That has to be a fun! I thought to be employable you needed turbine rating, and 500 hours of time, or something like that?
