I know it's always better to run an external BEC, but do you guys think the Jazz40 can handle 4 digital servos on this bird? I've got 5065 cyclic servos and a 3500G that I'm going to use. Thanks in advance

I am going to be running 4S. I really just wanted 5V though which is what the Jazz puts out. I was able to use a Jazz 40 by itself with my old Outrage G5 on 6S/350mm blades but that was with 3x Analog HS65MGs and one 9257 servo though.

I too am setting up with 4S and a Jazz 40 and was planning on using the Jazz internal BEC. Why do some think it can be used on 3S but not 4S? The voltage of 4S is well within its rating. Thanks, Joe...

I believe you need a separate BEC on both 4S and 3S setups when using Futaba digital servos. Jazz and CC ESC's for that matter just can't handle the constant current draw of Futaba 3156 digital servos. I burned up two CC 45's and one Jazz 40 ESC when I set up a Furion.

I posted the problem after frying the 2 CC's. I was told to get a Jazz, so I did. That overpriced POS smoked too. I didn't even waste time on my Rave and used a Phoenix 45 with a separate CC BEC from the start. No problems at all with that setup.

I don't know if its a problem only with the Futaba S3156 servos or all digitals, but I tested an Align 35 on my Rave with the 3156's and 9257 tail servo and it worked fine. I don't think the Hitech 5065 will be any better then Futaba's digitals. However, I have no experience with the 5065's.

IMHO the internal BEC's on both the Jazz and CC are totally inadequate! I even had the design engineer for CC tell me not to use the Phoenix 45 with digital servos.

Play it safe and get a separate BEC.

For security sake when running the higher draw digitals you list you could consider a Medusa Potencia BEC for such a heli in this size, it is small and will fit easily in many places. The Jazz 40 BEC is good, but once you go onto using 5065s and servos of this nature which pull more amps then you can get near the limits of the internal one of the Jazz 40. The output of the Jazz 40 is 5.27 volts at 2.0-2.2 amps max.

I use the internal bec of my Jazz55, which is the same, as the one in the jazz40, in combination with 3 HS5065 on a 3s setup. I've had absolutely no problems so far. It seems, that the internal bec can handle it.
I know a few other guys, who are using the internal bec of the jazz 40 with HS5065 with no problems.

The Jazz 55 does not even have a BEC built in, you must be thinking of perhaps a different ESC?

The JAZZ 55-6-18 has a bec, the JAZZ 55-10-32 has no bec.

The jazz has a switching bec 3s,4s,5s or 6s make no differecnce to it. Inky is really quoting instuctions for a esc with a linear bec which generates more heat as the volts go up. I've run my jazz 40 on a 6s trex with no problems for years, if you under the two amp output and want 5 volts then the jazz bec is great reguardless of cells run

This was first posted in January. Have you now had time to try out the Jazz with the HS-5065s and the internal BEC?
