I have RF4.5 right now, and I'm trying to decide which one to get. Looking for better physics, and more of a sense of depth perception.

Tough choice, I have Phoenix and have used Reflex in the past.

I have to say I like Reflex more, the graphics just look a lot better...for me anyway.

I think if I get another sim it will be Reflex.

I cant believe you just compared Reflex to Pheonix.. they arn't even in the same ballpark for heli physics.

Phoenix hands down.

RF4.5/Phoenix are much closer.. both have pros and cons. but both are better than Reflex.

It only let me watch demo videos but from what I can see its kind of a toss up. I think realflights sound is better but phoenix graphics are much better

Its not that lifelike...in fact any sim I have played with STILL cant replicate 'Vortex ring state'....phoenix has it as part of the settings....but its crap...nothing like real life...none of them are.

As for flyability? well Phoenix is good...for sure..but I like Reflexes graphics more...to me the flyability is much the same. I am just a run around yank and bank flyer anyway.

Personally, and I mean personally...so what about which is the 'best'...you are meant to be out there flying the heli of your choice.

FMS is freeware, and lacks a lot of features but it still helped me to learn the sticks...the advantage of the more advanced sims...advanced prices anyway...is that you get to use real functions like throttle hold and Idle up...so you can get into the right frame of mind for shooting an auto.

Mind you...if the Synergy N9 handles in real life like how it handles on the sims...I want one

You really think sound is better? Engine sounds are not good.
Played RF for some time and since I heard phoenixRC, I no longer like RF sounds. Also with phoenixRC you can change sounds yourself as they .wav. In RF you can't.

Oh and mferraz get phoenixRC
What do you mean with "sense of depth perception"?

Cheers!

As far as the sound goes, with realflight, I bascially just change engines in different aircraft to get the sound I like. You dont change the powerplant, just the engine sound. Once you mess with it for awhile, the sound can become pretty lifelike.

Predatorman: Im sure that there will never be a simulator that will provide exact flying characteristics, thats just to much to ask. You cant replicate real life in my opinion. You may get very close but it will never be perfect. Simulators are just there for you to get used to different orientations and becoming familiar with certain manuevers before you try it out on your helicopter.

Sure, like I said...its about getting out there and flying.

The vortex state is an interesting one though, they could replicate this I would have thought...maybe its a conspiracy...linked with spare parts suppliers...maybe they are breaking in to the software developers and altering the programs? LOL!!

The first sim I used was EasyFly...anyone know that one? one it were two helis...a jetranger and a 3D...I learned the Jetranger first...the 3D was just crazy.

I promised myself that if I could crack the 3D I would then, and only then, go out and buy a real model and radio etc...which I did!!

I used FMS too...not a bad sim for what it is. My first 'bells and whistles' sim was Truflite 3D...not excellent in terms of graphics but good enough to do auto drills on.

If you get Phoenix...once you start getting good on it...select the competition option...select the Balloon busting game.
Flying about busting those balloons will bring your flying skill on like never before....to add some spice...select 2 mins for fuel...keep flying and busting those balloons...when the heli runs out of fuel you have to then do a quick autorotation

Bored with that? do the same again...backwards or inverted

I also noticed that vortex ring setting. Played with it on the large turbine but they also have the headspeed too high and some other settings are off and it just doesn't fly heavy. I'm guessing once everything is set right, it might start playing a factor. The original version of Realflight got me past rolling circles, etc. So all the new sims are just icing on the cake. Still want to see them all get as close to reality as possible.

Well the 'failures' option is a good idea...I gather that the later version of Phoenix has this.

I used to practice things like tail drive/rotor failures on Truflite...by holding the control over and trying to fly the model closer to me using the cyclic and then doing an auto.

Engine failures were done with setting the fuel level.

I dont know how you could improve sims...maybe the virtual reality kind of thing could be the way? its obviously one thing sitting there at a computer...looking at screen...and quite another standing there at the field actually flying.

Quality takes........time!

Yes I know about the sound changing part in the editor, but still tried all sounds for the 600N pro. None of the sounds really do it for me.

Sounds posted here:

are a lot better.

Just my opinion

Cheers!

realflight is the best phoenix just dosent have thier collective under controll it is horrible and nothing like the real thing. and the heli sticks to the ground if you are moving at all when you land anywhere even on cement the heli will just flip where in realflight the heli will slide like it should.

Then your setup for Phoenix is wrong wingman..
Phoenix collective is as good if not better than RF4. flies exactly like my birds in real life. but it relies on how you set up your transmitter.

and I can skid mine along the ground and do quite often in autos it slides and does not tip on the concrete as it should.

RF4 feels like a video game the physics are soo loose.

and yes you can set up failures on all components as well as tweak every single model much more than you can on reflex or RF.

Hi all,

Please state which builds you talk about

I'm using PhoenixRC 2.00Q and Realflight G4.50.021.

This way we all know the versions your compares are based on.

Cheers!

Been flying Phoenix for a while now since version 1 and it still did those things.

2.00Q is very very solid as well even compared to the latest RF4.5 release.

The only bone I have to pick with Phoenix is their multiplayer network coding is not the greatest.

Its fun.. but they need to get a much better working network code so there is more optimization like in an FPS where every frame matters and it should as well in online flight sims.

I have Reflex sitting on the shelf along with Phoenix. When I want to use a sim, I find myself firing up Phoenix every time.

Reflex started out great, but they really dropped the ball with updates. It eventually became a joke, so I bought Phoenix and never looked back.
