I presume the problem with strapping them down has to do with some induced dynamic instability?
Look up ground induced oscillation. Easy way to watch your heli tear itself apart in only a few seconds.

Break the motor in by flying it. As simply stated early above -- set the needles to factory setting and work from there. Gradually lean out the needles. It only takes a few tanks to get close to where you need to be.

I watched a video not long ago of a CH-47 that was running while strapped down. It was a ground test with no injuries..Man, it was COOL watching that thing tear itself to shreds!!!

The test stand thing sounds like a good idea but I woulod want to be standing well away form that, and you sure as hell wont be putting any of my machines on it.

The best way to test how it will fly is to fly it, you might as well have fun flying when you break the engine in rather than risk that stand thing falling over or flying to bits when you are that close to it.

Also not to sure about the standing behind glass and flying the heli on the deck out side, I wonder just how far that glass would go when the heli smacks into it, wear safety glasses would be wise at the least.

Life is like a bath, the longer you stay in it the more wrinkled you get.

This is a timeless question, and you can do a search for "run up stand" and see my lengthy dissertation. Bottom line is the heli will explode ripping itself from the skids. Don't do it. It will oscillate and it will blow up and you will be sorry. Of course since I am an engineer, I thought I could do it right despite the warnings. Mine blew up too.
