At least we won't have to worry about the blank you'd see of Bush's.

First comment:

They are a long way from actually reading random thoughts but it definitely looks like they are stiving for that goal.

Second comment:

What makes you think the Government isn't already fudning this? I bet you a quarter they are.
oh look-out, now they will know if you have done the nasty with your sister
Wasp, why would you first think of this implication? That makes me sure, without a doubt, that you have had intercourse with your sister.

Afterall, you are from Vermont - the Arkansas of the North.

Just think of the amount of information the government will have access to... bank account numbers, pin numbers, passwords, what you value most, how best to manipulate an individual, your entire thought process... I wouldn't be surprised if, in the long run, they'll be working on extracting actual imagery.... being able to identify 'knife' and 'hammer' are things they've been able to achieve in the infancy of this project. As it stands, I wouldn't trust this kind of technology to the human race at this point in time. We are simply too reckless in much of the technology we have developed and there are far too many people corrupted by various things such as greed. Although an amazing feat to have developed such technology, I fear for the well being of our society while technology such as this exists.

edit:
"Do you think one day, who knows how far into the future, there'll be a machine that'll be able to read very complex thought like 'I hate so-and-so'? Or you know, 'I love the ballet because...'?" Stahl asked.

"Definitely. Definitely," Just said. "And not in 20 years. I think in three, five years."

"In three years?" Stahl asked.

"Well, five," Just replied with a smile.
If these people will be able to engineer this technology to do that in five years, imagine ten, twenty years from now. This is an ethical disaster, and knowing our government, even if this project is publicly scrapped, they'll just take it behind closed doors and finish development out of the public eye.

This would be good for communicating with someone in a coma.

The bottom line is having fun.
