Why?

You would get the same power from the Redline 53 at way less weight and bulk plus the machine is geared to a higher reving engine. A 60 muffler likely weighs more and you are dealing with older engine technology. The crankcase mounting I'd venture to guess is bigger on a 60 than a 50.

A 61 will handle 600mm blades much better than any 50 or 53,it will be pretty much unboggable. the only draw back is it is a little heavier.

For some odd reason this stuck in my head. I really wanted to do this a few years ago and run 660, maybe 680 blades but it required me to find/make the boom, find a belt and a set of blade grips to fit the bigger blades - plus fabricate an engine mount.

Haven't done an OS 61, I did manage to shoehorn a BME gas Super Tigre 90 into one, never went all the way to completion though as I acquired an XCell Fury for that project.

You'll need to take a 60 size fan assembly and turn the fan blades down on a lathe to fit into the 50 frame, or find a way to adapt the 50 fan to a 60 hub, either way involves lathe work. The 60 clutch will fit into the 50 bell, so you're good to go there.

The 60 engine mount is too wide for the 50 frame, so as Jschenck notes, you will also have to fabricate an engine mount. You may need to be a bit creative there as the rails will need to be very narrow to fit between the frame sides and the crankcases and have enough meat to drill and tap for the necessary mounting holes.

It's not impossible, but it certainly helps to have a mill and lathe available

Without major frame modifications, you're limited to the available 8.5 or 8.7 gearsets for the R50, or R 30 gearing, one of the big reasons I abandoned the BME 90 installation in favor of the X-Cell.

The problem is this; unlike the R 60 and 90, the 50 has bearing blocks that are molded as part of the frame, there is no way of adjusting the gear mesh if you wanted use say an 11 or 12 tooth pinion with the stock 85 tooth main.

I had thought about milling the existing blocks off the 50 frame and cutting screw slots to be able to use modified R60 bearing blocks to get mesh adjustment, but the rapidly escalating complexity of doing all of this just to fit a different engine wasn't worth it to me.

The stock R50 clutch bell and gearing will work with an R60 clutch, so if you can fabricate an engine mount to position the engine correctly, the stock setup should work OK. I don't think there's that big of a power/rpm difference between a Hyper 50 and a 61 to make changeing the gearing a necessity.

Good luck, if you decide to do it, let us know how it works out.

The only problem my friend had with YS91 in a 600 with the 8.5 ratio was he couldn't run the 2100 headspeed with it like he could with the 50 engine in it so he lost a little bit of the quickness it had on cyclic, but it made up for it with the extra torque on the manuvers that really loaded the head.
