high all,
currently I'm finishing an ion-x2 and wondering what peak currents can arise with a 12s set-up ? Are they larger then 150Amps ?

I would like to know that since I'm considering the eLogger V3 150A version datalogger from eagletree systems (http://www.eagletreesystems.com/MicroPower/micro.htm ) to measure voltage, current, power, headspeed, etc.

I already have the eLogger v2 for almost 2 years know, and found it to be very useful. Also have all the sensors, so buying a V3 is the best option for me.

So , I would like to recieve your guys opinion on the current and/or to found out what logger you use ?

Oh, and my set-up looks like :

12S 4200mah 25C/50C SLS lipo (best brand in europe!!)
Scorpion 4035-560
Kontronik PowerJazz
Total gear ratio = 10.54 : 1
3x JR DS8915
Spartan + JR 8900G
Turnigy BEC + 2S 2200mAh SLS lipo

thanks in advance !
kind regards
sebastien

Hi Sebastien,

On my Ion-X2 I used a Eagle Tree Logger v3 and here is the results I got.

The big spike at 4.5minutes was when I did a full pitch climbout.

As you can see I pulled 5.5kilowatts out of the motor and a maximum of 130A.

Cheers,
Warrick

Hi Wyvern,
now that's a quick answer, thanks !
Just what I was looking for . So it's not above 150A.

(It would be better visible if the current is on another scale)

What is you flying style ? akro / 3D / heavy 3D ?

what is your set-up looks like ?

thanks
sebastien

Hi Sebastien,

Heheh, I had the image on my pc from when I was doing some tests on the Ion-X2 when I first got it.

I agree about the current, but it was the default graph the EagleTree created but it still gives you a good idea.

My flying style is a mixture of big aero's and mild 3d. The last couple of flight have been me solely practising piro-flips.

In my ion-x2 I have:

Scorpion HK4035-560
Castle Creations Pheonix 110HV ESC (running V2.00beta code)
Dual Stack Main Gear
Upper ratio: 7.75
Lower ratio: 1.36
Futaba BLS351's on the cyclic
Futaba GY611 with a BLS251 on the tail
Futaba FASST 14 channel receiver
2 x Outrage 6S 5000mAh batteries
Arizona Regulator with 2600 Li-Ion battery
710 Main Blades V2Blades (not the TST's)
MA Standard paddles
105 Tail Blades V2

Some photos of the heli:

What do you mean with "base plate" ? Is is the carbon plate of the original ion-x1, between the front and rear landinggear-strut ?
Is the added value: strength ? Is it really necessary ? It's super strong and rigid already.

By the way, my total gear ratio appears to be 11.62 and not 10.54 ....
motorpinion = 20T
1nd gear = 30T

2nd gear = 12T
maingear = 93T

So that would change the final max headspeed to about :

12 x 3.7 x 560 x 0.95 x 1/11.62 = 2032 rpm

with governor set to 85% this would yield : 1727 rpm

this might be a little to low, but lets do a testflight first ...

Hi Sebastien,

Yep the base plate Phil is talking about is from the Ion-X1. It just makes mounting the battery and arizona reg switch easier and provides a bit more frame support.

The heli will fly on 1700hs... But you probably want to run the governor up a bit or run it at 100%.

Warrick

the ion x 1 baseplate is rather weak, didnt take much to snap mine.

Waz,
I got some cnc made up from CF recently. It also allows you not needing to use the front canopy bolts, only the rear is needed.
Protects the motor abit aswell, and makes the frame not look so skinny.

i got a couple as spares if your interested.

Flighttime on those 4200 batts, I have no idea !

My rough estimation is an average of 5 to 7 minutes, strongly depending on flight-style and headspeed.

Finally I got my ship in the air.

During testing with different headspeeds I got an average current consumption of 2 to 2.2 Ah for 6 minutes of relaxed flying.
So average current of about 20 to 22A.

12S 4200mah 25C/50C fly time?
with 2 X 6s MaxAmps 4200hv I set my time for 6 min and with 12s 5000s I set my timer for 7min and fly as hard as I can and never pass the 80% mark on recharge the heli flies better on the 5000s because of balance even if I move the ecs forward its still slightly tail heavy with 4200s

setup is
Actro 32-3 Single stage gearing with 93T main
Phoenix Hv 110
3 X Futaba 9451
1 X GY611 with 9256
Duralite regulator 6v
Flight Power Evo RX 1600 2s2p.
SAB 710
SAB 110 tail blades
2 X Evo 25 5000 6s
Min Air open tailbox.
Min Air Metal Anti – Rotation.

dang , somethings wrong here, you got a video with that much wattage

Wyvern
what HS you running ? dang did the math. 10.54 at 100% would be 2460 or so.

Finally I've got a logging graph myself. Only I don't know how to upload it.

Current peaks uptill 125A
Power peaks uptill 4900 Watts

So quite impressive.
This is measured with Saehan 12s 4000mAh 20c pack , so should be even more with SLS ZX 12s 4200 25C/50C pack !
