Hi

I picked up the commander 26v 90amp ESC and changed the LVC setting. It's set at 6v default and I wanted 21v as I'm running a 6s lipo..

It won't increase the performance but may save your lipos. Obviously your LVC setting will be different to mine. The lipo instructions should tell you the minimum voltage for the pack. I then used this for the LVC setting.

Setting the LVC on a heli to cut out at 21V on a 6S pack is the wrong thing to do. Should have left it at 6V and time your flights not to go over 80% of the pack capacity. Any one that has been flying electric helis for any length of time should know better. I hope you didn't activate the break also.

Why is it the wrong thing to do?

If I let the 25v 6s 5000 mah lipo pack drop to 6vs before the ESC cuts out won't the lipo be bu99ered?

The lipo instructions stated 3.3v x 6cells = 19.8v as a cut off. I chose to set the ESC from it's default value of 6v to 21v to increase it's margin of safety.

Sorry Stanc don't understand what you're getting at. A timed flight on my 600e of 5 mins is within the 80% of the pack capacity. What will happen if I leave the LVC at 21volts?

What Stanc is trying to say is that if you set the cutoff voltage too high, the ESC may prematurely cut off in flight. This all depends on how much current you are drawing from the battery pack during your flight. If you are an aggressive 3D pilot and you are pulling a log of pitch, this will result in large current peaks which could drive the voltage below the cutoff threshold long enough to shut down the ESC. The best practice today is to time your flights and do not discharge your pack by more than 80% during the flight. The best way to achieve this is to start off very conservative on the time and measure the current you put back into the pack after each flight. Then gradually increase your flight time until your are putting back around 80% of the capcity back into the pack.
