I have a pentium 4 2.4ghz running xp. I have a radeon 9600 video card with 128 ram. When I run real flight 4.5 it gets real jerky. I was ok with real flight 3.5 but I'm thinking I need a new card. The slot is a pci I believe. Sorry not real good with computers.

In regards to the slot, there's PCI, PCI-E, and AGP.... I believe the 9600 series were AGP, so you'd be really limited as to upgrading your card... :\

Running xp 788 ram I think is what I saw I have 2 sticks of ram installed. I know it's an old machine and what I hear I'm limited with the old pci slot.

That really doesnt give many options.
and RF4+ is very hardware demanding.
Might be time to bite the bullet and update the PC.

I just built a gaming capable machine for my GF and her son.
I think I spent about 700 updating hers and 1200 building fresh for her son.

Dont buy premade PCs though if you can do electronics on a heli you can build a PC =D

more ram would help for sure, but i agree that building a new one is your best option.

i built the computer im using now 3.5 years ago, and its still running strong, but with the new processors and video cards that you can get, my machine has fallen behind.

building a PC is super easy. i built mine in less then an hour with no previous experience. everything is labeled, and on top of it, all connections are unique, its difficult to put it together wrong. you also end up for the same price with a much higher quality machine. and you get to pick and choose exactly what you want.

Pre build pc are full of junk parts on main boards. I used to work in Motherboard manufacturing company when those stuff were made in USA. They made boards for HP/Compaq/Dell home pc's. Their engineers will call our engineer and always ask about design change to make thing cheaper like replacing liquid capacitors with solid capacitors, eliminate resistors and regulator etc.

They will put GOOD CPU on board with crappy components along with cheap slow RAM and High capicity OEM HDD which has less parts then retail version.

Putting together a PC from parts is as fun as rebuilding a heli

You almost certainly have a AGP slot for the video card. I would suggest you upgrade your system memory and video card. I just did this recently on a older PC I had laying around to use at a HTPC on my 52" LCD in the living room. I used the Sapphire Radeon HD 3850 AGP video card and 4GB of RAM to max out the motherboard. The memory is only $20 per 1gb now and the video card was $129 from NewEgg.

Spend $150 or so and bring that old PC back to life. It will have no problems running RF 4.5.
