OK, what am I doing wrong?

This damn, expensive 9303 2.4 should work with a 6 Ch RX correct??

I set gain to 75, and the gyro is initializing with a green light in the "normal" mode. I can't get it to go into heading hold mode.

The one menu I hate in the 9303 2.4 is the DeviceSEL menu! It is so confusing. I'm thinking I got something wrong in this menu.

What should I have for the following:

F.Mod Extra
Thro Hold
Pit. Trim
Gear
Aux 2
Aux 3
Aux 4

Rud Trim:
Out:

In this stupid menu, it says "GYR" at the bottom of the Aux2 column. What the heck. There is no Aux 2 on a 6 channel RX!

In the normal menu, under [GYRO SENSE], it says AUTO, so I assume I am using this menu to adjust gain and not the travel adjust.

What am I doing wrong???

Gyro Sense requires Aux2, which is something a 6ch RX doesn't have.

You need to use end points on the gear channel.

So the GYRO SENSE menu is displayed, but doesn't work?

That dosn't make any sense to me.

I'm looking at my [TRVL ADJ] menu, but there is no gear channel....

Go into the Device Select menu and change the GEAR "out" to "ACT"

Then you can adjust the endpoints.

By the way, these are my settings now:

F.Mod Extra INH
Thro Hold RUDD D/R
Pit. Trim INH
Gear GEAR SW
Aux 2 AUX 2 SW
Aux 3 AUX 3 LEV
Aux 4 FMOD SW

Rud Trim: COM
Out: GOV

I believe the issue is this OUT: GOV which is in the GEAR column.

The other options are INH and ACT.

Next Question:

The travel adjust only goes from 0 to 150.

Where is the transition point, and if the gyro directions say to set it at "75", what do I need to set the travel adjust to get a value of "75"???

Wow - you type faster than me!

Yes, I noticed that I do have a "gear" in Travel adjust when I change OUT from gov to ACT.

So, can you help with the "Next Question" above???

I'm going to go see if I can now get it into HH mode.

Be right back..........................

Thanks for your help!

Where is the transition point
0% +/- means the gyro is "off", but depending on the gyro, the threshold could be as wide as +/- 3 or 4%.

50 on the + side is, for intensive purposes, = 50% gain on HH.
It might be less. I know +50 end point equals about 48% on my 611's

BTW, if you want to use a standard "Gyro Sense" menu, you could use the Governor mode if you wanted to, and just PRETEND it says Gyro.

If you wanted a different gain or mode in each flight mode, thats the way to do it.

Gov mode works just like Gyro Sense mode, it's just that the labels are changed.

OK speedy - here's what I observed:

In [TRVL ADJ] menu, I now have a GEAR setting.

With the gear switch in the up position, the "+" value is highlighted. In the down position, the "-" value is highlighted.

Now here's the wierd part. In the up position, the gyro is in normal mode no matter what value I set. Wierd!

In the down position, any value under 5 is normal mode, and a value of 5 or higher is in HH mode!

Again, doesn't make sense to me. I was expecting the transition from normal to HH to be around 75 (1/2 of 150).

Anyway, is what I observed what you expected?

So I guess I have to switch the gear to the lower position for HH for my 500?

ANd again, what value should I use for "75"???

NEW QUESTION
What distance should I use for the ball from center on the rudder servo for a 500???

The Up position will be "+" until you reverse the GEAR channel.
Gear Channel. Anything on the positive side, your gyro will be in HH mode.

Flip the switch to "-" to go into Rate mode.

+1 to +150 translates to (approx) 1% to 150% gain in HH MODE

-1 to -150 translates to the same gain values in RATE mode.
In the down position, any value under 5 is normal mode, and a value of 5 or higher is in HH mode!
The center might not always be at 0. If it bothers you, you could bias the channel over to one side with some subtrim on the GEAR channel.

75 gain, as in 75 on the Gyro Sense program, is the same as 50% gain in HH, or +50 endpoint on the GEAR channel

Woo Hooooooo!

Thanks to Dood, and my buddy Brad who called me - I MAIDENED!

Well Brad and I figured 112 was close to a gain of 75. Boy were we wrong! That tail wagged like a dog on crack!

So I lowered it to 90, and still wag. I brought it down to 50, and now it was flyable, but I still need to lower it for a solid, smooth hold.

Anyone else got a 7000 - what gain do you use?

And holy cow! The 7000 is NOT a 401!

It behaves much closer to my Solid G in quick left/right rudder commands! Sweeeeeeeeeeeeet!

Anyway, it was a quick, fun, exciting maiden out in the street under the street lights!

Can't wait to dial it in and get it to the field!

Oh yes, I set the ball on the 2nd of 4 holes on the tail servo. Approx 10.5mm. I believe that is too much.

I'm going to change it to the 1st hole.
