When i started flying heli's i bought a raptor 50 on what i read here. i learned to fly on it and got to where i could do good aerbatics fly inverted, tic tocs and stuff like that. about 6 months ago a friend let me fly his Trex 600 nitro, and man what a difference,i wish i had started with one of these instead of the Raptor. His has been extremely reliable and and hasnt had any problems with it at all. i here about how cheap they are well he hasnt had to replace any thing on it since he bought it a year and a half ago. He did crash it pretty hard and the frames survived despite how weak people say they are.The cost to fix it was very inexpensive compared to the same parts as a raptor. I see why people are selling their raptors and replacing them with a 600,i did.
I flew a Vibe 50 the other day and i couldnt believe how good that thing flew,i will be getting one of those for sure, the quality is much better than the raptor or 600 for sure and the parts are in line with the raptor and only slightly more than the 600 but the quality is execellant,i can see why people rave about the Vibe 50 now. The raptor might have been good 3 or 4 years ago but people want a new design thats why they are selling the raptor and getting the 600 and the vibe.

Out of all the helis, IMO Raptors are still one of the most adaptable helis. Granted they do not fly as well as others 'out-the-box' but for those experienced in setup issues, the raptor is perhaps the most flexible and offers the greatest range of upgrades and tweekables for those interested in optimising their helli to their own requirements.

Yup, I agree Yug, there are more aftermarket upgrades available for the Raptor than any other heli I have seen.

Yu know, I often wonder how many out there fly a Nidach frame or the more popular XeroG frame not to mention the miriad of other goodies from the likes of Kamasa or QuickUK given the advances that have been made in relevant technologies.

A lot of guys don't buy that stuff because for a lot less $$ you can buy a brand new heli kit that has most of those 'upgrades' built in. Take an R50 with aftermarket frames with Kasama Head and Tail, how much 'Raptor' is truly left? I personally don't see the point of the exercise unless you just want to be 'different'.

When I bought the Kasama head for my old R50, the plethora of good eCCPM helis were not out yet so I felt I had little choice but to work with my existing bird. Now there are a LOT more options... I try and stay stock as much as I can so I have good parts support.

Not very many at the price of the XeroG conversion, you can fly a vibe 50 and a 600 for the price of those. Just buy a Vibe 50,you can tune it fly smooth like FAI or hard 3 D out of the box.

But if you're into helis, what has cost got to do with it ?
The financial aspect is irrelevant and the setup is what matters.

I agree BUT, if you can get the setup you are after in a stock bird AND save $$ at the same time, then why not?

Up here in northwestern P.A. most of the guys still fly raptors, they don't care about any fancy trex 600's or vibe 50's!!

All they want to do is fly a lot and one of the guys usually goes through at least 40 gallons a year on all his rappy's!!

I am the oddball and bought a trex600 nsp,why?,because I wanted to!!

I have never even flown a raptor but have seen many guys fly them at our field and they hold their own!!

I may just have to try one someday before they become exctinct!!

I'm planning to get an eHeli soon. Anyone care to comment on the E550?

I’ve had the E550 for a year now & put just on 250 flights on it. Think of it as a eccpm Raptor 30 on steroids. Goes great out of the box.
All I have done on mine in that time is change motor pinion from 10 to 11 tooth to get a head speed of around 2100 to liven it up & gone to lighter paddles to speed up the cyclic. I also went to a metal head block with the hard dampers. Not because it needed it, just because I feel safer with a bit of metal there with the higher head speed.
Get 5-6min normal stick banging flight times on 6S 4000 packs. It’s taken a beating with the best 2D I can give it and nothings worn out yet... (But not crashing it helps that too)

OK, time to close this worn out thread. I think we have exhausted this issue about 100 times over on various threads. It's safe to say that Raptors are still relevent helis. Can we now get over this topic, PLEASE!

LMAO. You guys are killing me with this Trex thing. In actuality.. I don't want a heli that lasts that long anyway because I'd want something new by the time it starts to rot.
