Hello Pilots.
After tests with my Nova 4 with Freya, I have notified that the model sometimes when I make a fast backward flight against wind direction, have turned(free piruet) without my control 180' and second time after second cruiss did the same with 270 degrees. How and why does it happend? I've never seen it before with standard canopy..

Hi Synthax! Though a great gyro the 401 problem you are having is call a blowout. you are exceding the gyros abillity to keep up with the model. I have seen and heard of this many times. you can tweek your setup and minimise this but the best solution is a 6o1 or 611. the servos they have are just faster and more percise and can keep up with the demands of FBF. hope this helps. Tom

Tom, thanks fot quick reply

Two things:

- Which way do you think I should tweak the gyro settings?

- What is FBF

Should I (if decide to ) take it with BLS 251. 601 or 611 are there many differences?

FBF = Fast Backwards Flight

The 401 is a great Gryo for sport flying and mild 3D but as soon as you try to push it (FBF, tail slides, hard 3D, ect.) it takes a lot of work from the pilot to keep the heli under control. The only thing that I've found to work is to turn the gain as low as you feel comfortable and get real good with the rudder stick.

In the long run you'd be better off with a 611, 601, Solid G, Spartan, or any other high end gyro. They can all handle just about anything you can throw at them and will still be rock solid in a hover.

A fuse in NOT the same animal as a pod and boom in backwards flight, as Wayne Mann will confirm. You have to be much more careful with the tail once the model is in a fuse. It's easier to stall the tail, and then it'll let go.

There is no question the 611 holds better than a 401. There is also no question the tail of a fuse model will still blow out if you mismanage it in flight or if the wind is especially nasty.

A 601 or 611 AND BLS251 will hold the tail VERY well.

Yeap You're right. I'll do more tests. I'm just curious if there is someone who fly with 401 in a such fuse or it is definitely risk option?

Many thanks for suggestions

I cant help you out with fuse flying as i dont have any experience in that area. I dont think you pose any risk using the 401 other than being more aware of what may happen in FBF ( fast backward flight) . The 401 is a great gyro but the 601-611 is a better one. You may be able to make it better than it is now by makeing sure you have the servo arm length\linkage\gain setup are the best they can be. Ben can respond the best here as to the best settings for your situation. Tell us what your setup is now. such as servo arm length,gain settings, delay settings and is your linkage totally free of drag and or slop? With this info you can be given advise on tweeking you current setup to get the max out of it. Tom
