Charlie, whilst I agree that it is more important to use a simulator to "learn to fly" there is no excuse for the updates removal from the public domain. I would understand the updates vanishing after the product becomes obselete however I paid 120 GBP for this only 4 years ago. The updates were more than purely aesthetic and in particular introduced slope soaring into the simulator.

If anyone has links to a torrent or other mirror of the patches please let me know.

The whole reason updates are important is that NONE of the available programs are perfect. They do not fly perfectly. They do not look perfect and they do not sound perfect. Once they are perfect, there will be no reason for updates. Until then, updates ARE important.

Because the sims are not 100% accurate at this time, as you get into more and more advanced flying, the simulator does less and less of a job preparing you to pick up your transmitter and fly your real bird. Thankfully, that all DO a good job of helping the beginner get his heli in the air without that instant crash that was way to common before sims became popular.

And before someone decides to thrown in the "good enough" phrase, I would like to point out that at one time, helis didn't have gyros, where fixed pitch and barely had enough power to hover IN ground effects, let alone out. That was "good enough" at one point, but no longer.

This why I mooved to Phoenix a long time ago and have not looked back.
The service / backup is fantastic and they listen to us.
Reflex just do what they want and you had to put up with it.
All updates are free with Phoenix and new models are out on a regular basis.

If it cannot fly on it's own, then I won't be much help....

Any one that needs the updates just drop me a PM. I have them sittig in EMail.

You will need to be able to take large emails with just under 10Meg. attachments. If you do not have a account that can take them that big, just set up a a Yahoo account.

I agree that sims will never be real life like but updates do help since you get new heles and sites. I still think that Reflex is a little better sim that Phoenix, but no HH gyros was a real bummer.

I never used my Reflex much since I fly alone, and flying the sim alone got old. I switched over to Phoenix for the online flying. Phoenix also relases new sites and models on a semi-regualar basis. Plus with the online you can watch the stick movements of other people to learn new stuff.

While I agrree that the updates upto 5.03 should be available, it must be said to be fair that they were never "free". They let us download them, but they stated that they were no free of charge: we could decide to pay them. I did so a couple of times (not all).

I purchased 5.04 with ivol (wanted to try it) and i'm happy, although I would like to know if they will really make the tx module and receiver for it; it was not cheap, but neither too expensive for a simulator controller.

I have now the new 5.05 version (paid for it a reasonable price, 20 € if my memory works well) and it has some improvements over the older ones:

- It has multiplayer feature, and works pretty well
- Smoke is now perfect. You can make the field look like in those 3D master videos, all the air full of smoke.
- Wind sound added and molel's sound improved (blades do make noise now).
- Automatic Update. Current version is 5.05.1 (first on-line update alredy released, free of charge).

rc-sim.de and aeromodelisme.net have plenty of new models and sceneries to download free of charge for reflex.

I think sometimes you have to pay if you want a product improvement; those who make it have to eat too

I have phoenix too, and its a very good product, but I still like Reflex more; maybe because it was the first good simulator I used...

Regards

Is there a life outside the sim?

I think it would be wise for the new Reflec owners to still offer the older version downloads up to 5.03

Other wise people will just buy Phoenix and not upgrade the the newer Reflex.

xtr 5.03 upgrade
Hello,

I'm newbie with Walkera birotor 5 10.

To avoid crashes, I bought on ebay an old version of reflex 5.02.2 and it seems to be a good simulator. I search the free upgrade 5.02.2 to 5.03 because I read there are many improvments and the files are lost on the new site.
If anyone could help me, it would be nice

Thanks

Chris
