In case some of you didn't see this in the main discussion on the 8th, I'm reposting this here...

Hello All,

My name is John P. Gorham and as many of you know, my dad passed away the day after Thanksgiving. I would like to thank everyone for their heartfelt and sincere postings and want you to know how much the family appreciates it.

There will be two memorial services for my Dad. One up here in Ventura County where he was based for many years on the 24th of January and one on the 25th down south near San Diego where he retired.

If anyone has any material we can use to put together a retrospective of his life we would very much appreciate it and promise to return anything you need to physically send.

Plus, if anyone would like to attend one of these memorials please contact my sister Christy at

We are all also thrilled at the idea of the group hover at the IRCHA's next year. I hope that other local clubs around the world will also consider doing a simultaneous memorial hover at their home field at the same time to not only honor my father's contributions to the hobby but also to promote the hobby itself which is something he did for 75 years in one way or another!

Here is a poem I wrote to commemorate the occassion. God Bless all of you and break a blade!

A treetop touched a tailblade
sent leaves into the air
A loud and thumping wobble
of the blades just wrestled air

A sudden burst of power
as it caught us all off-guard
Grabbed our fast and sole attention
as the heli breached our yard

I've been surprised a thousand times
and should have known by now
That ANY time we went outside
we risked being mowed right down

My dad was always testing
something many said won't fly
But every time he proved them wrong
and took off in the sky

This final green explosion
that his friends and family saw
The GMP Competitor
that flew without a flaw

This closing brief reminder
quickly faded to the fact
That this was one last metaphor
that won't be coming back

He lived a life that's said and done
and left his touch behind
We build upon the bricks he laid
with every step we climb

John A. Gorham made his mark
and left a better world
So one last time to honor him
let's all "give it a whirl"

I'm sorry to hear of his passing...

I have fond memories of my first helicopter, a GMP Cricket, when I was only ~14 years old.

Cricket flying on John A. Gorham' Memorial Service in IN
This is my Tribute to Mr. Gorham. As I was not able to make it to Cali for the service. So this is best I could do. So I just had JPGorham call me about 15min before the hover in Cali.

The time difference was about 6:30pm Indiana time which means it was dark. So we used a flashlight to see. Anyways

I feel terrible that I'm just now finding out about John. I will have my oldest Cobra out this weekend. I would love to be involved in a memorial at IRCHA this year. Please keep us posted.
I would spend almost the entire weekend in the GMP booth at Toledo. John was always so welcoming.

Sorry to hear of his passing. My dad built and test flew crickets for him from '80 to '82.
