Joker 3DD Flybarless with X-era 4030-2.5Y Motor(Videos Posted)
Hello All

I finally had the opportunity to try out the new X-era 4030-2.5Y (11 tooth pinion) motor in the Joker 3DD flybarless helicopter.

This motor is amazing; it stayed cool after 6+ minutes of aerobatic flying. I only put a couple flights on the motor but I could definitely tell that the motor is a winner and will serious competition.

I’ve talked to the motor designer and he definitely knows what he’s doing BTW, it was designed in the USA

If you want a great high end motor option for a decent price then this is the motor for you.

Here is some info on the setup.

Flybarless Joker 3DD Torque Tube Kit
3x JR 8717 servos
Spartan Gyro with Futaba BLS251(with inline regulator)
Kontronik Jive 80(Main ESC)
Kontronik Jazz 80(Tail ESC)
Thunder Power 12s 3850 Extreme V2(Main Power)
Thunder Power 4s 2600 Extreme V2(Tail Power)
Thunder Power Prolite 2100 2s(Electronics Power)
Radix 690mm Main Blades
Radix 105mm Tail Blades
X-era 4030-2.5y(11 pinion)
Kontronik Kora 15-16

The agility is similar to my flybarless Furion and is exceptionally stable.

That is incredible. I've seen those Furions, and they put other 450s to shame with how fast they are, I can't imagine a heli of this size being like that.

Sweeeeeet.

If you were to push 800+mm blades, Do you think the Kora would hold for non-3d?

What kind of tail speed are you running?

That's a really clean set-up!!

Hello

I think the Kora would make a good tail motor with 800mm blades and non 3-D flying. Heck I think it might be ok for 3D flying.

A more powerful option is the Hacker A30-12XL.

My tail is not even at full RPM. I think my slider is set to about 75% and it seems to be more than enough power for 3D flight. I came out of a tail slide and transitioned 90 degrees and went to full pitch. The heli came to a very violent stop and shot straight up, the tail did not come off line.

This airframe has a lot of usable mounting room and has great battery pack protection.

Isn't quiet heavy?
12 LB are arround 5,448kg. I thought the flybarless version would come arround 5 kg....

Anyway I still think its an interesting way to power an electric helicopter.

The weight of this machine is in batteries and motors. This is quite possibly the most powerful 90 sized helicopter made and is definitely one of the most agile I have ever flown. The motor and packs are cool after a 6+ min flight so its very friendly to your electronics.

It's a fantastic machine and a clever design. The idea of having the main motor decoupled from the tail is very useful in other applications like AP and Scale.

The airframe Gerd designed is a work of art. It's very light and extremely strong. The 3DD makes one heck of a 3D machine.

Also note that most people do not need to use the electronics setup I have(ours is setup for hard 3D). We are using 8717's with a dedicated flight pack for cyclic authority. A more reasonable setup would be the BLS451's and to use the Jive's BEC. This is a 120g weight reduction which brings the weight to about 5.266kg from 5.386kg.

Hi,

That sounds good. I think you will have to se it IRL to see how much power this combination gives.

Hopefully we will see more videos of this machine in the near future....

As listed in the original post, its the Kora 15-16. We run it at 70-80% throttle for the flight with 105mm Radix tail blades.

It seems to hold quite nice:)

Thanks
Carlo
