See if one crash will buy a set of Radix 710's. I have no problems so far, but don't like the mesh is not adjustable.

No
from what I gather they are not larger just thicker and denser plastic than before. They are made a lot stronger and of better material and are the same size. I have perfect gear mesh in both my 700's and I have only read a few who dont. I looked into this and see that the gear is same size around just a tad bit thicker and a lot stronger. Still would like to see a new one. I am going to order one from hobby hut as soon as they get them in. Then I will be able to compare. Its to bad though I have like 4 of the old ones. I bought them as a lot of guys are saying there stripping them and I have yet to strip one. Even with my HZ with viper head and omi carb port and regulator. All that power and still not stripping them. I guess we will see.

The trex 450 had main gear issues. If I remember correctly it took about 3 revisions to get it right but they did correct the problem.
Every heli has its issues. Overall the 700 seems to be a winner.

Stripped main gear on Sat: Temp 29 degrees, flight 42.

The gear mesh was lose when the problem occurred. To fix this I widened the holes out with a ream and filed the tab down on the clutch stack. It took a little work but now I can adjust the gear mesh and go back to the old way if needed for a new gear. The mesh is tight now with zero backlash. Probably a little too tight.

Any work on the new gears? Are they wider, thicker or better in any way? Has anyone stripped a new gear?
IT's what I do.

The new gears were designed for cold weather conditions and are made of a new material. They are also a bigger gear over all. Somewhere I saw a comparison picture and it looked to be a couple millimeters larger to tighten up the mesh. They will still be producing the old gears, and supposedly the align pilots tried the new gears and didn't like 'em and they went back to the original gears.

Are the new gears available yet? Where?

Why would they not like the new gears? Different ratio?

I was a bit confused by the broken english in the helifreak post...when I built my clutch stack I used a small amount of shoe goo on the bearings to hold them firmly in place inside of the plastic clutch block. If I understand what Align stated, they are seeing some wear in the plastic from the bearings moving. Correct??

2 Gears Stripped in one day
I was flying in Simi Valley 2 Sunday's ago and we had 2 main gears strip. The first was when a guy was doing sideways tick tocs and mine striped in fast forward flight while doing S type turns. Both Auto'ed in and no further damage. I run a ys 91 Sr and the other guy runs the OS HZ. It was cold, in the 40's, but not that cold.

I have about 15 gallons on my heli.

Mine is grounded, had two maingear strips in 2 flights... -3C outside, had absolutly zero backlash with the new gears.

I'll wait for a metal bearing block & new maingears before I fly it again, or warmer weather, whichever comes first.

Last time it was cold here i stripped 2 in one day flown about 30 times since then in nice weather and i give my 700 hell and no problems. So i still am sticking with colder temps being the major cause. I know some will disagree so throw tomatoes at me MIKADO LOGO 600 TREX 550

Turned out that I had tons of slop in the bearing block, sideways, it basically made a helical pinion towards the straight maingear

Here is a quickfix for the sloppy bearingblock, will probably allow me to fly a while more.

I was to replace my very old (about 10 flights) bearing-block with a new, when I realized it was tons of slop in the new one too, no point even trying.

so:
Take out the bearingblock, take it apart.

Put a 320 grit sandpaper on a flat surface, then take half the bearingblock and sand off half a mm or so by moving the block (bearing side down).

Repeat on the other half of the bearingblock.

Now the bearingblock is "just" a little too small, making the bearing seated 100% firmly.

thats about 99% better then before

You'll need to take some material off the alloy hex inserts in the bearing block as well otherwise it's pointless. T-rex700n VBar 5.3 Pro | T-rex700e DFC VBar 5.3 Pro | JR DSX9
