Thanks Guys. Are there power outlets on site for use by flyers or are you charging back at the hotel in the evening? fergus,
Power outlets can be real hard to come by. Only AC is around the RV area and even that is limited.Best to make a friend with a generator. The monster we bring would certainly have "excess" capacity, but we run it mainly in the late evening before heading to bed...or for morning coffee...it's LOUD!lotta ins, lotta outs |

Thanks for the headsup about the lack of AC DudeII. Thats what I was afraid of.Would a car battery give 300watts with the engine running? It might be the easiest option. I use a cellpro10s charger which really needs a stable input voltage. I have never tried charging from the car battery. I suppose I should grab the wifes keys and find out in advance Regards

Fergus: Well seems to me like you certainly found a way to make alot of friends there. LOL. I wouldn't crack a skull over it, sure someone would be willing to help if you ask nicely. I'm unfortunately weary to offer help knowing I need to charge alot of kit and my team mate is sharing a room with me and he's pumping up big batteries also, we might run into power problems even in the hotel room. But yes, if we can help we will don't worry about it. |

fergusYou are welcome to tap off our generator or the chargers. You will have to be stationed closer to us though.Below is an old picture. I now have 1000w 13.8v 73amp power supply mounted where two RS 25a units are showing.BTW, I've done the above modified Futaba charger case as a carry-on many times with no problem. TSA is nice enough to do free dusting on every flight as well. www.JustinJee.com |

Another thing you should bring to IRCHA if you fly electrics...JUMPER CABLES! Would a car battery give 300watts with the engine running? It might be the easiest option. I use a cellpro10s charger which really needs a stable input voltage. I have never tried charging from the car battery. I suppose I should grab the wifes keys and find out in advance 300Watts/ 13.8 Volts (a low car running voltage) = 21.8 Amps.A car idling will absolutely handle that for short periods...meaning I wouldn't run it all day long in 90F+ degree heat.I'm not an electric heli guy but am an EE. IF you were charging a 10S li-po @ 5amps, just before the switch-over from constant-current to constant-voltage you'd be pulling around 210 watts from the charger...say 85% efficiency...around 250 watts off the car's electrical system.May I suggest turn the blower motor on low, windows down and set the temp inside heat to "camels in the desert" & hood-open...should help to keep the engine cool.I'd also bet you could get by with 1 10S-charging cycle with the engine off if the car was just driven for 20-30 minutes...maybe even 2 if the car set for several hours before attempting to start.Reminds me of my younger days when I was installing 2-3K watt audio systems in cars, extra batteries & isolators and upgraded 135Amp alternators!lotta ins, lotta outs |

Thanks Guys. I will try the car battery with engine at idle and see how it goes. If it doesn't work out I will ask around for help Regards

Ircha 2009 Hi guys, Its my first time going to ircha as well as first time going to the united states, I live in Canada. Just wondering what do I need to attend this event? Found a good case to put 1 50 and a 450 inside but Ill have to wait and see if it works. Some one told me Maac and AMA have a mutual agreement so I do not need to buy both. The problem now is where should I stay! I'm flying from Saskatchewan to Chicago and from there to Indianapolis alone any one ells planning on renting a car to drive to Muncie? I was thinking about flying Thursday then going home Monday morning or so. So much to think about but I really want to go!Thanks,

I will try the car battery with engine at idle and see how it goes Due to catalytic converter not functioning at idle which causes polution problem, in some states, it is illegal to idle for more than 3min.www.JustinJee.com |

Due to catalytic converter not functioning at idle which causes polution problem, in some states, it is illegal to idle for more than 3min. That's hilarious. Will I be deported back to Ireland if I am caught. Maybe I should get long cables for the charger and move the car forward and back a few feet every few minutes or maybe.... No I wont say anything else. Its not for me to knock another countries 'green policy' especially when I am going to be a visitor for a few days.Regards

police cars break this law ALL the time.... I wouldn't worry about it. As long as all of the tree huggers are not at ircha watching all of the heli's blowing smoke out into the precious air. LOLTRex600Nitro YS 50 JR9303Converted to 2.4 TJ Pro |

I hug trees...but I dump nitro daily & eat electrons while I sleep! It's a balanced life-style!!!Guess'n I (my family unit) recycles about 2500lbs of material a year.I do even better when we go "creek-finding" and pull all the other trash (bottles, tires & appliances) and load them in the pickup.lotta ins, lotta outs |
