Happy New Year to all Walkera enthusiasts. Wowhobbies is striving to be your #1 choice for Walkera helicopter, parts, accessories and upgrades in the USA. In addition to our California warehouse we now operate a second warehouse in Shenzhen, China allowing us to be in constant contact with Walkera. In 2008, our operations in Shenzhen not only helped us to stream line shipments and quality control but also contributed to our huge increase in volume.

* In California, we receive multiple shipments every week from both Walkera and our Shenzhen warehouse. That’s why most parts are "fresh out of the oven" updated parts from Walkera and consistently stocked. And if you don’t see a part today you will most likely see it within one or two days.

* Helicopter shipments are first flight tested by Walkera, then a second time by us in Shenzhen and a third time in California before it is shipped to you. Most defects are sent back to Walkera from our Shenzhen warehouse thus saving us an expensive round trip to China for the fix.

* With our combined volume in California and Shenzhen, we are able to pass on exclusive original Walkera specials which are often lower priced than knock-offs.
This week’s special is the original Walkera 4g3 Metal Upgrade Kit on sale for $24.98.

http://wowhobbies.com/

We appreciate all your business and support over this past year and we hope our tireless efforts in 2009 will keep you coming back for more.

+1 for Wow Hobbies!
That is a great deal! I've ordered many times from Wow Hobbies. My orders are always processed quickly and correctly! Keep up the great work Wow! Your extra touches (like the additional info for the new transmitter) are a big plus over what the competition is offering!

love this bird....
Got it two days now and love it. It was a little twitchy at first but I'm getting used to this wonderful little heli. Need a fast thumb to work it and keep it steady and it's good practice for the bigger birds. This is my seventh week flying and I now have 4 walkera's one honey bee king 2 and just bought a Thunder tiger mini titan, this ones no joke very serious heli for me. Just spooling it up in the garage scared me. Lots of good reading on these forums and it's been a huge help to me and I'm sure others as well. I love it....

Wanted to give you all a few tips on this heli. After a couple weeks of tinkering I am very happy with it as I was not at first. I got the brushed metal head version with the 2801 TX combo (brushless main upgrade on the way). First thing to say is the head needs a break in period (mine did at least) as the ball links were a bit tight and giving poor servo movement. Just keep flying or use some plastic safe lube and it will get better. For the people out there with the 2801, you need to move the right stick (for TX with left throttle) right after the servos initialize. If I do not do this I get very twitchy servo movement. The tight ball links and the poor linking of the TX and RX made mine almost unflyable. It is much better now.
A simple mod I found that works great for the tail is, replace the metal tail shaft with a CF rod and lube the bearings. This will give a better tail. A 4#3 CF tail shaft is the same size as the 4G3 metal tail shaft. You may need to CA the 4G3 tail gear to the CF shaft (I did) as it fits snug but not tight enough and will spin. The 4G3 tail rotor hole has a flat spot so it does not spin on the metal shaft so you need to drill it out to get it to fit the CF shaft. I used a bit that was a tiny bit smaller that the shaft size and I was able to get the rotor to fit very tight and no CA was needed so I can remove the assembly if needed with no trouble. The CF shaft is lighter and more durable. After lubing the bearings and doing this mod I noticed my tail held better and was very responsive. My tail will pyro like crazy, very fast and holds solid once I got it set up properly and runs very cool. I can put my lips up to it right after an 8 min flight and it is just barely warm. I think the stock brushed tail motor will last a good while. To bad I do not feel that way about the main motor. Mine main motor is very hot after the same flight. I can hardly hold my finger on it after an 8 min flight. That is why the brushless upgrade is on the way for me. I will see how long the tail motor lasts to see if I want to switch it to brushless later. I am trying to wait as the unused ruder channel on the stock RX leads me to think Walkera has something up there sleeve for that. I am thinking a brushless motor with a collective tail rotor run by a servo and HH gyro! I hope at least.

procrasher, do you have a pic for your mod? My 4G3 went crazy after the 1st batt. The tail no longer holds, but piro anti-clockwise non-stop.

I don't quite like the idea of having to trim the tail as the battery gets drained, so I am looking for a simple solution (if there is one), without having to pour in more $ into this tiny heli.

helicraz: I do not have a pic yet but there is not much to see. The CF rod just replaces the stock metal one. I trimmed the ends so there is no rod even sticking out so you really would not see much if I took a pic anyway. I have noticed the tiny bearings used for the tail are hit and miss as far as getting good ones. I got an extra bearing set for my 4#3 and the both tail bearings (which are the same as the 4g3) were bad, both were locked up and would not turn. If I were you I would check your bearings and see if they are moving properly. They should move smooth and free with no gritty feel to them. These tiny bearings are very fragile and it sucks you can not buy just the tail bearings so you could get several and pick out the good ones, like I said I bought a bearing set and both tail bearings were bad, really sucks. You could buy a couple tail holders, which come with bearings and hope you get a couple good ones if the bearings indeed are your problem. I bet most people that are having problems getting there tail to hold properly are actually having a bearing problem. When I finally got 2 good bearings on my tail it held great. If you had any sort of crash you may have a bent tail shaft as well. Any tiny bend in the shaft would through off the balance and would not allow the tiny motor to get the tail rotor up to needed speed to hold the tail. When I bent my tail shaft, I first tried to just bend is back strait. I got it were it looked very strait and you could not tell it was bent but it was off enough to make the tail not hold like it should. My shaft bent with a very minor backwards crash landing on carpeted stairs.

Thanks for your tip. I have yet check the bearing, but I did replace the tail shaft. It didn't help. There is just not enough speed to counter the torque, even with full right rudder. Yes, the tail does sound nosier than it was, like some metal rubbing. I thought it was should from the gear mesh.

I guess I should check the bearings.

bearings was ok. solved my problem. it was caused by the flared main rotor, causing the head speed to be unstable, and the gyro just can't cope with the frequent changes

Helicraz When oyu say the main rotor was flared' was it liked nicked or hit hard. Im having the same problem and I have just a nick in one of the main rotors and I wonder if this is the problem. I will check the bearings and shaft on the tail. The tail motor gets hot after like 2min.

my main rotor wasn't just nicked... about 1" of shrink wrap from the tips are slightly torn, causing significant drag. The main rotor was loose too. After I replace the main rotor, the CCW piro went away.

It sound as if piro problems can be cause by lots of reasons that we don't normally see in larger helis.

guys, would there be any guide in setting up the 4G3? mine wasn't able to lift off even though i have +9. i have no idea how to set the pitch range for normal mode. i know its in DIP11, but when we have 0 in mid stick, how do we set the -3 & +11? (we dun have the pitch curve setting like in DX7).

also noticed that the mix & extend in 4-in-1, u basically can turn it both ways non stop. i guess i have messed it up, what shd i do to set it back to default setting?

on the V1 knob, there is this inner scale and outer scale, whats that for?

I just set mine yesterday. I adjusted it to get normal mode pitch as close as possible to idle up because that's how I fly the bigger ones. It should stop the drop on switching to idle up.

1. Disconnect main and tail motors.
2. Powerup.
3. Switch to IU and set the servo arms to get zero pitch at mid stick and in the centre of the slot.
4. Check plus and minus pitch at top and bottom ends of the stick.
5. Swich DIP 11. Twiddle pot 1 to get the required endpoint(s) pitch. I have +-9 and 0 in the middle.
6. Switch to normal and set the required pitch at mid stick using pot 2. I adjusted this way down to get as close to zero at mid stick as I could in normal.
8. Back to IU, check again and return DIP 11.
9. Reconnect motors and fly.

Got +-9 an 0 in IU and +9-6 and +3 in normal.

Pitch gauge is a pliece of clear plastic with some lines scribed on it

Incidentally, why would we need +11? +9 has loads of urge and doesn't overload the motor.
