Got the new gear put on. Shortened the struts by about an inch or so to bring my gear to 10" skid to skid.

Also mounted the canopy and transmission housing with blind nuts and counter sunk 2-56 x 1/4 socket head cap screws

If anyone chooses to go this route, the plywood tabs on the canopy and trans housing are pretty soft. You must harden them with CA otherwise the screw will plow right through to the other side.

Hey Leon,

What Gyro are you using?

I use the JR X9303 2.4 GHz / 921 RX and the Futaba GY401 gyro. I have used the Spektrum DX7 in the past. PM me with details on your gyro and I can help you set up the system. However, someone who is actually flying the DX7 would be better to help you.

If anyone else can help Leon, he needs to know how to setup the DX7 for use on the Swift.

Glassing Begins !
Started fiberglassing the wings and fins today.

I use Z-Poxy finishing resin and 3/4 oz (21g) cloth.

First cut your cloth a little oversize for each piece.

Next mix your resin and brush on an even but thin coat on the part.

Then gently lay on your cloth. Use the brush to pat it down flat. Brush out any thick spots or wrinkles. The cloth will absorb the resin that is already on the part.

Let the parts dry.

After the parts dry, trim the excess glass and sand.

I do the same thing Patrick, except I thin the epoxy with a bit of alcohol then lay the glass on the part and brush the thinned epoxy Over the glass. This soaks in real quick and gives a real light and smooth surface. I don't allow to much epoxy to soak in to the wood as this makes things heavy ... Keep the brush moving then when your finished go on to the next part and let it dry.

Looks real nice Patrick!!

Actually Doc, I use your technique too. But this Z-poxy stuff is already really thin. It's pretty light as well.

I use 80-100 gritt to clean up the edges and any high spots.

Working on canopy next.

Leon..glad you got it figured out. You'll like that radio.

To all watching this thread, I am still working on the Cobra. Just don't want to post much until I have more to show.

Right now im glassing and priming the wings, fins, and canopy. I plan on glassing, priming, and painting the canopy as well as installing the windows prior to more flying.

Doc thanks for the belt!

The workbench is ridiculously small. I have to work in the garage next to the boat. It's 3/4 " plywood. Just sand 'er down and wipe 'er off. If it gets too messed up, cut another table top. I glue, paint, glass etc on top of some clear Grafix .004 polyester film used in drafting. Down here you can find a big roll of that stuff at Pearl for not too much.

Great stuff. It is little details like this that make it so worth reading these kinds of build threads.
