Yep, and I still haven't finished rigging my Atom 500's beater canopy for night flight yet. I hope to get that done this weekend so I can partake in the night flying Friday and Saturday nights. Don't expect much from my flying though because I'm only a sport flier and this would be the first time I've ever flown at night. |

It looks like the weekend will be a scorcher, with daily highs around 100. I just hope it's not humid too! |

RON
I was at a event in Ohio and was talking to some people and Joe Noll was brought up and was I in for a surprize when one of the men I was talking to informed us that the 3-D flyers at Joe Nall almost got shut down because of the way they tore up they're part of the field and the drinking but what was the most troubling was the person that took a dump in the showers there. So if what you said about it being so great I would like to know if that whats is going to be going on at your heli thingy because I don't think I need to bring my family around that kind of environment.

Um k...So what exactly does that have to do with HeliBlaze?#1 Drinking is not allowed at all at AMA sanctioned events/fields period. If you see someone boozing it up notify the staff.#2 I've been to alot of fun flys and never seen anyone physically tearing up the fields ( ok maybe the AIR above the field ).. cars and trucks at most of these events aren't even allowed on the flightlines how exactly did they tear up the field?#3 I don't care where you go there are always idiots that shouldn't have been let out of their cages. ( hell we got those wearing suits at the office)If you go around life trying to shield yourself and family from the worlds idiots you're going to miss alot of great stuff in life. |

HeliBlaze is a much, much smaller event than Joe Nall. As such, misbehavior will be easier to notice and to deal with. However, I don't expect any misbehavior. Both of the Texas events I've attended -- Southern Rotary Classic in Mt. Pleasant (twice) and Helis Unlimited in Tyler -- have been classy events and I don't expect my first trip to HeliBlaze to be any different. There's something to be said for southern hospitality. Also, I've spoken to Ron a few times at various events; he's one of the nicest guys you could ever meet and he definitely seems to know what he's doing. |

Thanks for the input guys.It is a valid concern for any parent and I for one applaud your concern. The Heli Blaze is a fun Family environment with lots of spectators with some of the safest and fun pilots around.Joe Nall is a collaboration of actors from around the world, some serious modelers and yes some bad actors that tend to over do it.While I can't speak for the reasons that ones do what they do,
I can & will stop what ever is deemed undesirable at the event. The Heli Blaze is simply a group of modelers getting together to have fun & fellowship. The Golden Triangle R/C Club will serve up a plate of southern Hospitality to remember. So invite your fiends, relatives, coworkers, dogs and kids of all ages. The dogs can run free but leash the kids |

How much actual spectator seating is there (as opposed to space for lawn chairs and such, of which there is plenty I'm sure)? I've invited some friends, although I doubt they'll come, but just in case... |

Carl,I would wager that the behavior you mention will not be taking place at this event. Don't let one story scare you off! As with anything, there are many different personalities that go along with the hobby, just as there are in any other hobby or sport. If that kind of thing were prevalent, I for one wouldn't be pursuing the hobby myself.Having been to a couple of fun flies, and having flown at a few places locally, the people I have been around that are actively participating in the hobby certainly weren't tearing up the field(s), nor were they painting graffiti on the buildings and poopin' in the showers. Matter of fact, I would dare say that if that were taking place in the presence of some of the fellows, then a good old fashioned county a$$ whippin' would be taking place shortly after. That said, I would be guessing that there were some dirt bags present at the event in which you referenced (hopefully non-participants - I hold those that are into RC to a higher standard) and this was an isolated event, or it was something small that has been made to be much worse than what actually happened (not saying it did or didn't; just that it may not be accurate). No matter; I will be attending this event with my wife and young son (no leash - does a shock collar meet club standards? ), and with absolutely no fear of experiencing such intolerable behavior. |
