I set up the 520 tonight and all I can say is AWESOME,if this gyro performs as well as the set up was thought out, its going to be incredible

especially the servo endpoint parameter.the set up is very similar to the logitec/hitec and spartan gyros but they added a NICE litle touch.when setting the individual end points, instead of trying to hold the rudder stick in one place while you are looking at the tail slider and trying to hit the litle button.the servo moves in small increments and stays in position when you release the stick.so you can leave the servo where you need it,and release the stick, carefully check its position, then hit the button.Very clever

the color coded led makes it a snap to identify what parameter you are in,and the arrangement lets you know exactly what setting it is.very clear and straightforward.for example instead of having gyro direction being 3 blue flashes for clockwise and 2 for counter.its 2 red or 2 blue,no room for error.

as you can tell I am really impressed with the set up on this gyro, and I usually dont find gear set up very interesting or something to go on about, but so far this gyro is meeting my expectations 100%

next up is the whole reason you buy a gyro...flight testing

oh and if any of you guys are thinking, man 200 bucks for a gyro is way too rich for my blood.I got this gyro for 120.00 bucks, shipped to my door.it is in mint condition, not a mark on it.less than a new 401 and only slightly more than a 2100/5000.I have been finding some GREAT deals in the RR classifieds

Continued to work on a friend's EXI 450. I think it may be ready to maiden tomorrow. Cheap electronics and a $30 hyperion tail servo. I'm giving the cheap $20 G401B another try. I found that the gyro board was not secured on one and and would vibrate on the inside so I added foam tape to it. If that does not work I have another gyro I can use for it. He's getting the gyro and motor from my previously used stash of parts.

My 450 that has been giving me vibe issues is now really screwy.
The vibe issues were really screwy and yesterday it was bobbing up and down like I was moving the cyclic really fast. I'm thinking I never had a vibe issue but something wrong w/ the pots on these 2 servos or something.
I'm replacing them with some Hitec 5065s
Here is what 2 of the cyclic servos are now doing (4 crashes on these servos):

Did you work on your heli today?
No, but I should.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

Welp. Another clutch bites the dust. So, I am doing that. Also, the ground connector on my 2in1 wore out so I am soldering on a new one.

WEll one burned out about 2 months ago. That was the first time I had one fail. This one went out after a couple months. I am embarrassed to admit this, but I believe I know why. At a FF 2 weeks ago I had to put a new ring on my engine. In all my haste to get in the air, I (GASP) forgot to loctite my engine mount bolts. After several break in flight I noticed a knocking sound. 1 bolt had backed out and 3 were very loose. I believe this engine movement stressed the clutch and caused the failure.

Rebuilt a 450 that crashed due to failure to hit idle up. It's ready to test fly.

Pulled out the servos from the 450 from the video above that had jittering servos in preparation for the incomming hitecs.

Put a larger pinion on the EXI 250 and test flew in the basement. Seems better.

(then I flew the HBK2 in the backyard for one pack)

Yes, I pulled the Tower Pro Mg90S servos.
I had 2 spare left and I put them in, but one of the spares had a loose connection to the motor and worked intermittantly.I just pulled them out in wait of the new stuff.
My other heli had the stock blueray servos (made by a company called Batan). Those had strippe gears and I had 3 spares (my last) that I used. those servos have always worked great but just strip in crashes and I can't get spare gears for them.

I guess if I upgrade the servos, that will complete one of my 2009 goals to upgrade existing helis. Crash repairs were going so much faster on the Metal gear'd servos till the TPs failed.

Yesterday, actually.

Parts from XHeli came in - 2 tail booms, 4-pack of feathering shafts, and a 3-pack of main shafts. Shipped on Friday from California; arrived in SC on Monday. Not bad for $4.95 "Parts Express".

Swapped out the slightly bent main shaft for a new one, and swapped all the metal-to-metal Phillips screws with hex heads and re-loctited all except the tail block screws. I check the belt tension and tighten them (if necessary) every flight so they should be OK.

Still waiting for my main gears to arrive. Been down over 2 weeks; another few days should be tolerable.

A soul in tension is learning to fly

Put HS65MG servos into the heli that had the jittery Tower Pro's in it.
Leveled the swash and set up the pitch adjustments.
Will test fly when it stops raining this week.

Had a mishap w/ the EXI 250 this morning. I used a ball link resizer tool last weekend and I think I went too far on a few linkages. Well, I know it was binding at the extremes but I did the old "I just won't pull back full cyclic when I'm doing full collective trick. Well, 1/4 into a loop, I pulled back too much and snap. main blade grip link came undone and down she went.

Just finished fixing. Main blades survived a boom strike. Probably about $10 in damage. I had all the parts and ready for morning test fly.
