Main shaft 1 blade Main gear Bent frame 1 stripped servo (elevator) Bent tail boom Canopy split in a few places Very minor bend in the flybar Bruised egoFortunately, I had just enough spares (and Scotch tape) to fix everything. I bent the flybar and frame back and I happened to have one 2 year old Align 325 blade left over.Strangely, it seems to fly even better than before.Even though it ended up being an extremely hard upright crash-landing, the skids survived with only scuffs. These skids are the same SuperSkids I had on my very first heli, an HBFP. I moved them to the King a year later, and now they're on the EXI. They must have been through 20 crashes or more, including the ones that killed the FP and the King. |

I have been using EXI's cause they were cheaper. I still am working on spare parts I got in bulk over last winter when they had sales and such going on.Today I worked on my 2 EXI 450's I have been trying to solve a vibe issue on one of them and thought it was the flybar. But it's not. For some reason, it works well on one heli but not the other. Head swapping today showed it's the heli and not the head. I think maybe it's the headspeed. Heads were not 100% identical on the linkages so when I swapped, the trouble heli was running a lower headspeed at hover cause the pitch was biased about 2 degrees. I evened things out and I'm just gonna lower the headspeed a tad on that heli and just fly it. Maybe I'll look at my main bearing blocks or main bearings after the next crash.I test flew the EXI 250 last night but my pinion is too big. No one seems to have smaller .4M pinions so I think I'll just get an Align 250 motor cause the Kv is lower. I was using an $11 Mystery motor someone recommended but you gotta loctite the pinion on and I hate that. I saw another person's Align 250 yesterday and we were comparing notes. I think the Gaui 200 probably builds better than the Align or EXI but the Gaui 200 is not cheap like the EXI 250 is.My HBK2 w/ metal head is a tad bigger than the 250 is but may just be a better backyard flyer anyway. |

Mainshaft,spindle,boom, 1 skid.Test flew today at lunch.Test flew another EXI that was having vibe problems. It's not the head cause the head came out of the other 450 (above) last week that was flying smooth. The other recent change was the motor. I pulled that motor and put the Align 430L into it which is KG (known good). But on takeoff, the pinion was slipping. Pulled it out. I had not filed a flat on the shaft and the grub screw inside was stripped.Then I flew the flybarless 450 again. It does gets into this state of instability at times and I think it needs tweeking that I just don't know how to do in the PC program.jEdit: Went back after work and borrowed a file from my job. Filed a flat on the shaft and flew it. Seems like the vibes are gone. Align 430L 3000RPM w/ an 11T and flat 100% throttle curve. 2700 at end of flight. |

Worked more on the EXI 250 and put a faster tail servo in and a different gyro ($20 Colco GY400) and it was holding much better now.Unfortunatly, I robbed my HBK2 of it's tail servo and gyro in the process. If it works out, then I'll just order another tail servo and get the HBK2 flyable again. |

Tried a chinese weight mod on the HBK2. It helped me to increase my gain about 10% but nothing wonderous. I still have a cheap junk $20 gyro on it so I can't expect much. Every time I debate in my head to put a better motor and gyro on it and such, I change my mind. It's still has a cheap brushless motor ESC on it that is not that powerful so I guess I'll keep it as a park/backyard flyer for simple upright flight at least for now. It's very stable to I'll just leave it at that. |

Installed Hobbywing BEC Flybar,boom,mainshaft,spindle,blades,tailshaft. I used heatgun to loosen loctite on the tail hub grubscrew and melted some tail arm stuff :P I had spare parts from a plastic tail and used that.I did some electronics install onto a new CF EXI 450 that I'm building for a flying buddy. My first time using a DX6i.I also copied 5 models over (manually, feature by feature) into my new DX7 from my old DX7 (very tedious). |
