2 in total. Technically you can put them both on the positive, both on the negative or one on each but I find it easiest to understand and do if you just put them both on the positive. Most people are not electrical engineers, so it makes it more straight forward.

Oh and I would highly recommend the Mega Power TX battery. I assume the 10C uses the same battery as my 7C and if so, $26 is a sweet deal.

There are LiPos for the 6EX but they are hard to find. Here is an eBay listing for one

If you put Diodes on the output leads won't you want to make sure your charging only using the balance plug?
BTW, if you put the diode in backwards you'll know because it will not work at all

I have 3 0.8A chargers that use the balance plug but my quick charger,I have to hook up the big plug as well.
The Tx likely has a linear voltage regulator in it. That means all excess voltage turns to heat. Heat build up on the regulator is probably the only issue I'd imagine. If you have a diode, the heat goes to the diode so don't get ones too small.

I do keep my Tx in a Gun case normally and the back of my car does not get too hot in the summer.
One of the issues w/ NiMh is that NiMh discharges faster than a Lipo so when you store them over the winter, that's when they can discharge on their own if you don't recharge once a month. On the extreme side, over half my NiMh batteries went down to 1/3 capacity because I left them sitting for 2 years. I have a couple NiCd batteries that are 15 years old that still perform to 80% rated capacity cause I put them away fully charged and charged them once and a while.
If you Tx charger does not do NiMh batteries, you still gotta pull them out to charge themon a charger rated for them.

Mel I covered most all of that man!

Yes you are correct, with the diode(s) installed on the main leads you will have to charge the LiPo with a charger that will balance charge only. Say hello to my little Cellpro friend Or for those with an old ESky or EFlite charger laying around, the Mega Power packs use the same balance connectors.

Yes if you put the diodes in backwards they will stop the flow of current and the battery will simply appear to not work. As for heat created by the diodes, that is not entirely true. They lower the voltage but not by creating heat, they are not resisters. FOr those who want to know more, check out the Wikipedia page
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diode

Yeah I believe you are just looking at some extra heat created by the internal voltage regulator. I understand that most of the radios require 5V, so the regulator is lowering the voltage to 5v. So if we look at this as a percentage problem, lets say you have the NiCd in there and it is fully charged. Mine used to hold 10.8V for a while and the drop from there. If you plug in a fully charged LiPo at 12.6V, you are raising the voltage difference by 31%. So one could assume you are increasing the heat created by the regulator by about 31%. I am sure that the regulator is not near its operating limits at 10.8V and knowing that most of this stuff has a safety rating of 50-100%, increasing the heat by 31% is likely no issue for the regulator. That is all just guesswork but I have a feeling it is close.

Like I said, they now make ultra low discharge NiMH cells now. The first ones I saw were made by eneloop but now there are many
http://thomasdistributing.com/shop/...22_141_142.html

They are making radio batteries with these but they are decently expensive and except for the damage-the-lipo-from-overdischarge-or-heat issue, they have the same drawbacks and less benefits.

yesterday Carbon Fiber Frame Stiffeners added and swap the original bearing blocks for G-Force Bearing Blocks Kit V2 before that; today CA one of the piano wire holders(tail control guide) to the boom cause it was moving around. Lil drop of CA fixed that.

Futaba 6EX manual says to only use a 9.6V battery I do understand the fully charged 11.1. But a nimh or nicad doesnt stay there for long at all.
Most people are not electrical engineers, so it makes it more straight forward.
Yeah an electrical engineer would probably use a zener or XSTR regulator to get an exact voltage rather than a couple diode drops but thats overthinking it.:

Oh and the silver banded end is the cathode this end blocks current from a reverse flow thats why when reversed you get no output. And the anode allows current in the direction chosen. But the tradeoff is a voltage drop of .7V.

here is a drawing of the diode circuits described

heh..today I was having small vibrations on my heli that I can't get rid of by balancing the blades so I removed everything and spin it up and adjusted everything stage by stage.

I removed the blade grips, weigh them to .000 oz accuracy! and weight every head part to that. Put the flybar on spin it adjust until no vibrations at all, do the same to paddles.

Tail blades and grips are also done that way, now with flybars and tail blades install spin up no vibration at all! My balance plug on battery is solid, tip of zipties are only moving a tiny bit from motor spin.

Now balancing the blades.

I can go total it tomorrow.. heh!

I read all the questions and thought a pic would help and notice the free advertising for PPRC?

As for heat there really isnt any to consider 1.4V drop at .170A draw on the 6EX less than a 1/4 watt. I am sure the cooler running lipos due to a high C rating will offset the heat of the diodes.

I just wrote an email to Futaba support. The main ? is in a radio that uses 5V logic why do we use a 9.6V pack? yeah I know so it doesnt shut off, but is the RF portion also running 5V It would be a great advantage to run the maximum pack voltage for better transmission but I know they limit the output power but if the answer comes back that the RF power uses full pack voltage it will make up my mind on TX lipos. Cause they keep a voltage longer!!!

I use 8x 2650 DuraCell Nimh I charge them with regular charger and last 3-4 weeks between charges. I also have them on DX3.0 Car TX and it was left in basement for whole winter and yesterday I wanted to get my car running again and fire up TX show it still got 10 volts!

I charge them with Maha charger. Sometime I load them up in 8cell package and charge them with my MaxPro charger. I also have those Low Discharge ones that use on my Digital Cameras and remotes, they last forever! I don't see a reason to go lipo with all that trouble.

Hard to miss along with the ???Deans??? I'm all EC3 and loving it. Never really had problems with Deans, but the EC3 is so much better.

BTW, the Spektrum guys can swap out that old linear regulator for modern switching regular to double the pack life.

I refuse to spend that kind of money (EC3 money, hell even real Deans money) on connectors. I am actually planning to move to a hybrid system, ebay deans on the battery/esc and 3.5mm bullets on most everything else (chargers, power supply, starter, etc). BTW I bought 50 pairs of stubby 3.5mm bullets for $15 on ebay.
