Any Issues with the Beam....
I am thinking about picking up another 450 and have always had Trex 450 in this size ..I really want to try another 450 and the Beam has caught my eye..The only thing my Trex really needed was better head dampeners..I switched to the trueblood dampeners and I was all set..How are the head dampeners on the Beam E4..What other issues if there are any does the Beam have..Does it fly similar to a Trex..What scorpion motor and ESC are most using for 3D flying..Any information would be great..Thanks

Once you build a fly a Beam you will want to email Align with a laundry list of stupid design flaws that are now obvious after you got your hands on a beam. And as to your question about equipment, Motor and esc combos go the same here for Beams as they do for rex 450s 2221-6 and -8. Honestly, i just sold my SEv2 because it felt "cheap" and cumbersomely engineered to me after getting a beam."I hover like a Pro"

The Beam E4 is a highly refined, very well engineered heli. The level of detail is significantly better than the Trex - IN MY OPINION. I am not stating this as fact. It is however a shared opinion.

Even so, it does have a couple issues you will want to address - if you decide to pick one up. Read the thread at the link below. Also, you will want to search for the thread on the pitch slider. Mine separated in flight. I landed it with no damage. I was lucky. No other flaws in my opinion. Setup can be massaged to improve flight characteristics even further.

PS: You really won't need the 2221-6. The 2221-8 has oodles of power and better flight time.

Mines feel pretty soft, but flys no problem. With the -6 you beam will be insanely fast.

I am guessing I will have to use an Align 450 11T pinion...

Start with 10T. Around 3200rpm headspeed, 5 to 5.5 mins flight time. Use the best batts.

paintball,

My cyclics felt soft too during tictocs @2800RPM and so I added about +30% expo to liven things up.
I will be increasing my expo rates even further or will be going up a tooth to increase my cyclic rates.

I run:
airthunder 2200Mah 25C
flight power evo 25 2170

depends on what you are going to do with the heli and what your power setup is, I'd say 20-25c is minimum...

If you haven't gotten batteries yet then stay away from TP.
Mine seems to lost its punch whenever it hits the 30-40 cycle marks and i dont like that considering they one of the most expensive 3s 2200mah packs.
I'm currently using KP batteries but why not give Outrage/desirepower/PerformancePlus RC packs a shot?

These packs have a pretty good warranty scheme and they give you higher HS than normal packs do. Not to mention lower prices too
