jr770 gyro/8900 problem
has anyone experienced any problems with the 8900 servo getting too warm ? my engine is tuned great and have gone through all of the gain settings low/high with the servo still getting too warm. the tail will kick very slightly left to right also. it has been setup in rate mode also prior to heading hold setup. as per manual. could the servo be going bad ? ant thoughts ? thanx in advance

How about binding in the linkage or tail slider? Mine gets a little warm, but not hot, and it never kicks. I'd check to see if you have binding that might be stressing the servo, and if you don't, send it to Horizon to be looked at.Nick Crego

Did this problem just start, or did it happen when you first install it?Man, I miss the eighties.

Yes my 770/8900 combo is at Horizon right now, and they are taking
F-O-R-E-V-E-R. Mine developed a violent twitch after only about 15 flights on my Stratus. I do remember they both got warm (but not hot). I tried changing out the gyro for a 401 just to isolate the problem. It hovered perfect for about 2 minutes and then the 8900 servo quit, dead as a door nail. I suspect that what ever was happening to the 770 took it's tole on the servo. In all fairness I would say that while it was working that tail was solid as a rock. But now its in the Horizon service center black hole. By the time I get it back it will be obsolete.

try a 9254 servo on the tail to see if its the servo. then you can send back the malfunctioning item to horizon hobby. I sent my 8900 in because my tail would kick out and go back and they fixed the problem and sent it back to me free of charge. It took me two weeks counting the time I sent it to the time I got it back.Man, I miss the eighties.

8900
Had an 8900 fail today after less than 100 flights. Not catastrophic though. Caught it in time. It had started to let go and then it just wouldn't hold. On the very next flight it started kicking all over the place and just got worse throughout the tank. Guess I'll be sending it back to Horizon on Tuesday.

http://www.vimeo.com/1380924 <- video of loose gyro guts

I can see this over working a servo, killing it.

Yea, Mine's back at Horizon right now too.. It's sad, but that silly 401 just keeps me flying..

Are you guys running a voltage higher than 5.1 volts on your 7703D/8900Gs??? Could that possibly be the cause your problem?
