YS 91 SR and Funtech muffler
HI,

Anyone tried to run the Funtech A385 muffler with the SR ?
I'm looking for alternative to the sb-19

Thanks.

Try the pipe and let us know how it works!

I think there could be an improvement over the hatori sb19, but I'm not sure the 3D pipe will be better. Maybe the F3C pipe would be better.

I have recently gone to mixing Curtis 30% and Wildcat 15% in a 50/50 mix. It has smoothed out my SR a bunch, and it still has lots of top end power. I lost some midrange thrust using the lower nitro fuel. The SB19 likes higher RPM, similar to the SB18 on the SZ engine. I'm running mine at HS 1880, equals 15,500 engine rpm.

A buddy of mines was using the new funtech 3D pipe on his ys50 and the power just wasn't there. He changed to a diff pipe and the egine really woke up! The difference was night and day.

Maybe the 90's are different

I switched over from the Hatori 521 to the Funtech 3D (50 size)
and found them to be very similar in performance
It's just that the Funtech is a hell of a lot quieter

I might give the SR a chance.
The funtech 90 3D working great on my 91 SZ, even little better than my MP5.

I have been using the Funtech A385 and the YS 91 SR for a while now. And I am very happy with the performance of this engine/muffler combination.

My impression after flying other helis with this engine and the SB19 muffler, is that the Funtech muffler will give a little more power.

And it bolt`s on much easier too. The Hattori header is just a pain in the a$$ on the YS engines.

Give it a try, I am sure you won`t be disappointed.

Jon Roger,
What type of fuel and plug are you using with the Funtech 3D pipe? This make a huge difference on how the engine behaves with the pipe.

I have been using different types of Wildcat fuel and Enya plugs with this engine/muffler.

On a hot summer day it will run well on 3DLV 30% nitro and a Enya 3 plug. But on a cold winter day this combination will lead to predetonation and the engine will run like crap. I know some people here in Norway uses head shims to be able to run 30% nitro in the winter, but I just change to a lower nitro percentage and/or cooler plug in the winter. In a hotter part of the world this might not be an issue at all.
