Trex 500 head speed
Hi

Just setting up my new 500, i first tried the black dampers, which i found created the heli to wobble in the hover, so increased head speed, which solved it, however didnt want that kind of head speed, so replaced the dampers with the grey ones, same thing, having to run a head speed which i would like lower. I do not do 3d.
mainly want duration..loop roll. its fitted with the 12 pin.
would it be better on the 13, is there any other dampers or mods that othes have done..It will wobble in flight also.....please tell. its on 6cell batts.standard motor.

You should be around 2400rpm with the 12T. and 2700rpm with the 13T.

The head speed might seem higher on a 12T pinion because of the increased motor speed to stop the heli wobbling. You will get more duration with the 12t pinion, just increase the throttle till the wobble stops. You still want a fairly high headspeed for looping and rolling.60% of the time, it works every time!

Yep so far so good, very pleased with it. I had the 450 for a couple of year's that was a nice heli also, however i think this 500 will be just that bit better even though perhaps shorter flight time's.
I cant 3d helis but can give them a hard time, it feels like it can take it what ever i give it.

You know 3D is impressive and a good challenge to undertake and master but I don't fly 3D and really never plan on it. I like flying these heli's the way REAL heli's fly. Smooth and graceful. Just watching it defy gravity wins me over. And yes you are going to love that heli. I love mine so much. At first I wasn't sold on it, I thought it was cheap when I first looked at one. Then one day it hit me, I said wow that looks like a nice little heli. Then I got it. Had build issues, but they have all been solved. I've upgraded the parts that were generic. Now it is super sweet!

yep agreed, they are an amazing machine no matter what type of flying you do, an to have one fly so smooth is just a big bonus. been out tonight setting up pitch curve, enjoyed every moment.

head speed or the motor pinion lash is too tight?, given no crashes.

When I put the motor pinion to the gear mesh I used a piece of paper to in between the gears. The gear seem to be flowing freely with no binding but I will try to refitting them once again.

Hi
My heli was doing some bobing motion as well. I played around with gear mesh, pitch and headspeed (change pinions) and a combination all seem to have fixed it.

I found out that there is no set headspeed which is suiable to everyone. It may be driven by headspeed+ Type of blades+setup and flying preferences.

A few folks suggested using a headspeed as high as 2800-3000. Not my taste. I am using scorpion with 14T and it is silk smooth at 2200 - 2400 RPM . I am hovering at about 70% stick position and have enough juice to pull out of trouble without bogging down.

Agin , Like lefyatm mentioned, I enjoy just being in the air and no 3D for first I don't have courage to crash and second it just doesn't feel like a heli to me. It starts to feel like some mad chicken on crack
