Shoe Goo
Hi All,

I have seen a number of posts, articles, even Spektrum's bulletin for repairing one of their radios, mention Shoe Goo.

Being in Brazil, I won't be able to find the correct adhesive with any variation of a Portuguese translation for "Shoe Goo", so can any one give a better description for this adhesive? Perhaps the manufacturer's markings on the label, regarding its composition?

Thanks!

...Bruno.

It's basically a silicone type adhesive/sealant is all. I tried hot glue on the antennas a few times and it didn't stick very well. I would venture to say most any type of home product silicone sealant would work ok. You could always use heatshrink on the base of the antennas to hold them from bending over which is what causes it to snap off eventually.Still buyin' and flyin' then crashing and cryin'

Unless I'm mistaken, this is NOT a silicone/RTV product, which would be highly ill advised d/t the corrosive nature of the acetic acid contained in them.

The problem with Shoe Goo is you have to find the original maker. Apparently The name is not registered trade mark. Manufacturers use different formulas to make it and use the name Shoe Goo.

I found this stuff which might be a good choice if you can get 3M stuff where you live.

To fix the antennas it only takes the tiniest amount.

I'm not sure if you are referring to the RTV but I have used RTV on electronics boards for years with no corrosive effect. We used it in manufacturing of electronics to support components that are subject to vibration and never had a return due to RTV causing corrosion. Now coffee spills is a different story.
I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

It's enough of a potential issue that I've seen electronics specified silicone rubber for sale. I know it generally causes no apparent problem, but I suppose the question is whether it's ever prudent to recommend intentionally the placement of a known acid containing product in close proximity to delicate wiring when there are other more pH neutral options.

I might get lucky finding the 3m product, we do have a lot of 3M things here.

Thanks again.

I found Shoe Goo in Wal-mart in the shoe/boot department. If the wings are traveling faster than the fuselage, it's probably a helicopter.

Goop and Shoe-Goo are NOT the same. Goop dries much harder and with a more permanent bond as compared with Shoe-Goo. Shoe-Goo remains semi-flexible and can be peeled off of most surfaces.Gerry Cullan,

Picked mine up at the local Home Depot,

I have one brand new hanging in the shop unopened, the back of the package says. "stronger than glue, it out-performs super glue because it never cracks or turns brittle", sounds to me like it remains pliable.

I've used this product to secure magnets to a scale project to secure the windshield and decided to use a larger magnet, the goop was easily removed and a larger magnet installed using the same material.

I used to use it to mount the tires on my off road RC trucks when I raced them. Made changing out old tires and keeping the expensive rims much easier. Just peel it off and mount up a new tire.I might not be able to fly well, but I can crash with the best of them.
