Bolts snapped off at main gear hub collar!
Both bolts(100-408 M4x8 socket head) that go through the main gear hub collar(110-150) snapped off inside the main shaft today in flight. How in the world did that happen?? ... And how do I get the bolts out of there?

I swear I am having the worst luck these days! I was flying down low doing some 3D and all of a sudden the engine spools up, luckily the governor did a good job of keeping the RPM's down, and the head was disengaged; I had to auto in. Thank god I was shiny side up and low so it wasn't an issue.

If the wings are traveling faster than the fuselage, it's probably a helicopter

If the pieces left are small you can try to drill them into the main shaft with a drill and they will fall out though the main shaft hole. Just use a bit that is smaller than 4mm. Heat may be required if you used locktite. An extractor tool/bit is the other choice.

If the 4M screws come loose I think the Sprag inner race can rotate and cut into the screws.

Nice save

to get them out - using dremel cutting disk - make a slot so you can fit a flat screwdriver and unscrew them out. this will leave a small mark, unless you have a very small diameter cutting disk but you will save the part for sure.My name is Ofir and I am a helicopters addict...

I got the screws out yesterday. Ended up just drilling into them and before I could even get all the way through they popped out.Nick

That's nice when that happens, sometimes you get lucky. Still wondering what caused this. A loose bolt under shear loads can break off as it's actually bending back and forth with the changing torque loads. Just a thought.Highly addicted to carbon fiber.....
