Microsofts PhotoSynth Released to Public! Too Cool
Ok guys and gals.. this is too cool.. I have been watching this technology for a long time.. Well they have finally opened it to the public. It is so cool and will work for aerial photog also.. It only runs on a pc XP/vista...

The photosynth program analyzes all separate photos of the same area from different viewpoints.. and layers them all in 3d all the while keeping all the different angles correct... so cool.. you need to install the plug-in for your browser.. pretty graphics intensive.. HArd to explain.. you have to see it for yourself.

They are allowing uploading now to the public.. also.. you can view everyone elses "Synths" currently... All the Synths are public (for now). Synth galleries can also be embedded in web pages they say..

I am so happy they released this.. It really is very cool.. almost to cool. I don't want everyone to know about it...

Have fun guys and gals.. you have to check it out. http://photosynth.net

Too bad. They seemed to have killed the link.

I've seen it before - would be neat to actually use it with our real estate listings..

If you create one and host on the microsoft site do you retain any rights to the image(s)?

It seems like a cool technology, but not as polished as a well stitched pano.

Cheers,
Jeff

Yeah they are a bit overwehlmed right now.. but I'm sure they will be back up soon.. I aready created my account, I just need to get some good shots together of a scene..

I agree a well stitched pano is great, but the Synth technology allows different perspectives.. the same scene can be viwed from all different angles and positions...... and also shows closeup great... actual depth.. because you could see the whole landscape, and then click the pic that shows just the tree up close within the landscape..

I hope they get their servers on track soon..

I can't imagine giving that presentation. I'd be tongue tied knowing the scope and magnitude of what I was presenting. This really gives a whole new scope to how we look at the world through our "computer".

I wonder what role "we" AP'ers will play in this. Would be interesting. I can see whole new levels of marketing that would be generated in this too...

Sounds like geotagging photos will become invaluable in the future, especially for this..
