Jonty,

MacGregors is waiting to hear back from JR in Japan. I have advised them of this issue as soon as I saw evidence posted on the numerous forums.

Luckily it shouldn't have affected the UK versions yet due to the delay in receiving the DSX9 (because of the CE certification).

No doubt there will be something on there in the next few days.

On the few that I have repaired recently, there has been no sign of chafing so hopefully it's not an issue yet.

Interesting to note, after reading about this issue on some other forums, looks like JR knew about this issue but choose not to tell anyone at Ircha. It would have been a great time to notify the public of this potential hazard.Which is worse, ignorance or apathy? I don't know and I don't care!

Jonty,

The word back from JR is that the wiring is slightly different in the DSX9's and that it shouldn't be an issue.

I did read on a different forum that the regulator is going to be relocated higher on the pcb on future productions.

I am going to glue a piece of plastic to the voltage regultor for the wire to rub against if it gets too close. A piece about 2 inch square.should be good.

Just confirmed the issue on mine. Found little red shavings scattered along the upper right corner of the regulator and a chafed red wire. It looks like the wire reroute will work, but I can't get a clear view of the wires when the case is nearly closed and the gimbal is deflected... We'll see, I suppose.

Having read all the posts here, I opened up my DSX-9 before setting off for the Nationals.

It looks like JR have re-routed the wires slightly on the UK versions, and there was no sign of any fraying on either the leads or the regulator.

Is the X9303 the same radio as the DSX9? I just got a DSX9.

Essentially yes, but there are slight differences (digital throttle trim etc). From what McGregors has mentioned, it appear the DSX9 (uk version) has its wiring re-routed already but it may not be the case with the DSX9 worldwide version (i.e, what is sold in Australia, Hong Kong etc).

It would have been nice if JR had sent out post cards or even emails letting those with registered x9303 radios know
I have sent mine in before because of another issue.
They did. The issue came to light on the 18th, and I got this email on the 22nd. I'm not signed up for any kind of newsletters or anything, it was sent out from my registration card. You can't say that Horizon didn't respond to this issue quickly and thoroughly.

I much prefer it. I am not sure why you would want a manual trim (I might be missing something here)

I prefer the manual trim because I find that I can adjust the idle or kill the engine more quickly.

I'm without my 9303 while it is in for repair and I'm flying a DX7 with the digital trim right now, and it's reminding me how much I prefer the analog trim on that channel.

speed of usefulness.

TRIM STEP
I know that each can be programmed to your liking but I wonder how some like it when compared to analog.

I guess if you have never used the analog throtle trim, it would be hard to compare...was that redundant?

I can kill the engine at the flick of the kill switch so I not sure how manually having to pull a trim down is quicker? I guess if you want to up idle quicker it will be slightly faster with the manual trim but I haven't had an occasion where I have needed to so this really quickly.

Yoy cant kill it while its in idle up with a kill switch, you will have to flip another switch to get into normal mode and i believe the throttle has to be at idle position also.

The manual trim is awesome, I can adjust my idle constantly. If its a little slow I can actually rev the engine a bit with the trim tab, or set it at a high idle if I think my engine might die due to the idle being rich. Sometimes my idle is rich, it happens!

Has anyone actually crashed due to the 9303 DSM wire problem? I checked my radio and sure enough mine was rubbing. I have only had it for 1 month though so I didn't have any wear marks yet, but I moved it and its ok now.
