Caliber 700
I got to see a Caliber 700 hands on at IRCHA, and I was really impressed with the machine. I found out that you cat put the Caliber 5 tailboom on it to make it a 50 size machine. My question is can you then use 600mm blades. Also, I was planning on using the Align 600XL motor, anyone else tried this yet?

Thanks

The only practical reason to change the tail boom is to run 600mm blades. The machine does not fly any different with the longer boom. I have flown it with 550, 560, 570 and 600mm blades and I actually like the quickness with the 560 or 570 blades. The autos are better with the 600 blades.

The Align motor has a 1700kv rating and the stock gear ratio works best with something around 1200 to 1300 kv. You can change the belt drive gear to a 15 or 16 from the stock 21 and this should give you about the right ratio for that motor.

Thanks Dwight. I have an abundance of Radix 600mm. I also have a few extra Cal 5 tail booms and belts. What motor/speed control would you recommend. Also, what batteries have you found to work the best with it? I appreciate all the help, this will be my first big electric.

Thanks,

I have experience with the Hacker A40-8L 8 Pole and the Hacker A40-10L 8 Pole motor. The 8L is a 1300kv and the 10L is a 1100kv. The 8L has more power but the 10L has better run times. If you want to just buy a motor that works for moderate 3D the 10L is best. If you plan on aggressive 3D the 8L is better. I use the Hacker X70 Pro 3D controller which is the recommended one by Hacker. If you run the 600mm blades the 8L motor runs best if you change the belt pinion to a 19 tooth instead of the stock 21. This gives better power and longer run times. The pinion is available from Gohbee for $12.

Thanks Dwight, I appreciate it. I'm now torn between a 600E and the 700. The price on the 600E is almost cheaper and it comes with a motor/speed control/bec. Decisions.. decisions..Team Mikado USA
