Costly crash this weekend
This was one of those life changing experiences this weekend. Was flying my newly built Trex when it threw a main blade which hit a nice car in the parking lot and smashed the windscreen but the worst was yet to come. The rapidly descending heli fell onto a passing car travelling along a nearby lane causing him to break suddenly and there was a squeel of tyres as the guy behind nearly drove streight into the back of him. During my attempts to appologise and recover my beaten heli, the bloke in the 1st car was really p!ssed and broke my nose before driving over my heli and speeding off.
This was an ugly day and I doubt I will forget it for a long time.

WOW! Talk about Murphy's Law. Look at it this way though, it can only go up from here. I doubt you'll be able to top (or should I say bottom that one). Seriously though sorry about your misfortune. Were you a member of AMA (is that only US?) or something similar. I know AMA has liability insurance. I think an event like that would qualify.Procrastinators of the world unite ... tomorrow.

WOW!!! I'm sure you learned your lesson and I don't mean to be a jerk but did the accident take place in an area that permitted the operation of rc helicopters?

You could definitely press charges against the person that physically harmed you. Although accidents do happen, he had no right to put his hands on you, unless there is more to the story that we have not heard.

Anyway, good luck in resolving the issue and remember that time heals wounds...even pride.

Take care
Loren

Good point about he assault. I would tell this guy that if he wants to stay out of jail he will forget about his car. That is assault plane and simple and if he wants to pursue repair costs of his vehicle he better be ready to have charges pressed against him.Procrastinators of the world unite ... tomorrow.

Two things
Do not fly anywhere near cars

and

Don't fly with Align A blades!

I had a TRex 600 throw a blade and instantly mangle itself only a few meters in front of me. The blade flew between another member of staff and the boss's new motor bike! Very lucky.

Sorry to hear about your bad day!

Crash
I recently crashed my beautiful air star mongoose.
I made a dumb move and whiped my tail into a nearby tree.
ASI was gracious enough to repair the heli in one day. The parts are so sturdy that I hardly needed to replace anything. Saved me tons of $.
Wheather it is near a parking lot or a tree, you have to be mindfull of your surrounding and make a logical/educated decision where you are flying.

Lesson learned.

Their will always be people who can't control their actions. This guys was out of line...how would he want other to act if he did such a mistake. These are usually the first people to want people to understand when they make mistakes. Anyway hope you will not let this get to you and keep flying...also hope you were flying in a safe area, you never know with these helis.Team Synergy, Rail blades, Team Scorpion, V-Team

I read the first post, and it sounds like a whale of a tale....

But I will say this,If I were driving down a public road with my wife & 5yo daughter in the car, and someone flying an R/C aircraft in a non approved area hit my vehicle, I would be rather pissed too...

I dont think I would go to the nose breaking point, but running over the bird - well maybe..

I seriously hope that anyone who flies a heli would be intelligent enough to realise a .50 size bird, spinning 600mm blades around 2000rpm WILL kill a human being...

Carbon fiber blades with a tip speed well over 200mph....

Our AMA field is right next to a train track and a busy 2 lane highway. It is definately possible to have a problem and the heli or plane head towards the highway. I've seen it myself. Not much you can do once they are in the air and you lose control. It's a complex, costly, glow powered anti-gravity machine!
