First Flight .... Then Kablam!
Disclaimer: Newbie, went from Blade CX to 50 class, in 4 weeks. Use the G4 sim, and read alot of posts on RR!

Had my first liftoff today with my Pantera 50 after spending 2-3 hours getting the trimming right and finding the right throttle/cyclic mix, I have to say hats off to everybody here who has walked the path - there's alot more grey matter required than I thought - but hey, it's freakin' awesome!!

The Pantera is so smooth in flight, the problem I had is that the Pantera weighs significanly more than the blade cx, so I landed the pantera in kinda the same fashion unfortunatly and the blades ate some grass (even with the trainers on), which on the cx is just a little blade gone, on a .50 class it's a little different I've found out...

You must INSPECT every head component after any blade contact with anything other than AIR!

The blade grip ball arm must have had a fractured with the grass/blade contact incident because 5 minutes of flight later, I pull back on the stick and kablam!, the blade smashes through the boom and the whole thing plunges to earth. The tail is fubar. In a blink of eye it was over but I had a good hour of flight beforehand...

A little winded, sorry, had a few drinks, will post pics tomorrow....

Cheers!

Blu,

If you can come on here with a great attitude about it, you got the bug! Welcome to the club! Stick with it and in no-time you will be doing things you thought you could only dream about.

Get that sucker up in the air as soon as possible. Go ahead and buy two or three of everything when you get parts to put her back together. Trust me, you will need them.

bluthndr, I feel for you!!!

I went through a rigorous search for a new heli to replace my aging shuttle. Literally spent months. Picked a pantera (good choice! congrats there!) and did my build. I'd spend my time on the sim, had been flying my shuttle around and feeling good about it, but my overall air time was pretty low. I'd set my head up pretty mild, so the cyclic wasn't very reactive and my pitch curves according to what I'd been reading. I was working it's first hover and a gust started drifting it back toward me. I was trying little corrections but that big ol' 50 was getting closer and I was thinking it was time to put it down.
WHAM!
um, much more responsive to collective than my shuttle or MX400 I'd been flying!!!
I did some pretty good damage but bit the bullet and got it back in the air ASAP.

It's a while later now and I've been flying it around pretty good. Love it so much I put another together with an electric conversion! too much fun!

I,ve had a similar experience. Been flying blade cp for 2 to 3 years now. Moved to the rex450. My second hover was behind the LHS to my dismay and for no apparent reason my heli dipped and down it went. I,ve been trying to get it back to normal but to no avail. However, I'll keep fighting to fly.I wish I still flew!!!

A beginers opinion
Bluthndr replace all required parts, check all nuts bolts screws elec connectors blade pitch & balance, then go and fly some more ! im a raw novice and truly belive that more time in the air brings more confidence, experience, above all so much pleasure, and i also crash quite frequently but still love my flying (Raptor E 550,& Raptor V2 30 )

Pics From Crash
I forgot to post these!

Actually, looking back at these it doesn't look that bad, I mean it didn't explode or anything, but here's the damage list...

Main Blades
Seesaw arms
Tail Boom
Tail rotor belt
Tail boom horizontal fin
Tail boom vertical fin
Tail boom strut support
Tail boom strut mount inserts
Main rotor shaft
Tail rotor shaft

I've since installed carbon fiber fins (horz + vert) which don't vibrate anymore and help support the tail on those not so easy landings that I'm trying to perfect...

Thanks for the encouraging words!

Crashing sucks. But, you got to feel the exilration and thrill of flying! Use that motivation to get your bird back up. As mentioned order two of everything so you can stay in the air.

Pretty mild
The pics look like a very mild crash. In your description it said "the whole thing plunges to the earth". I thought it would be a total. Keep going it gets better!

Yeah, looking back it was a slight exageration heh ,but I had such a rush the entire time I had her in the air I guess I replayed the event in my head in slo-mo after the crash....
