SPT5-H
I want to order one of these for my XLC but I'm told that Jetcat have had a number of failures of the gearbox. They are working on a new gearbox which has an elastomeric coupler inside to isolate the gears from vibration. I'm wondering if anyone can shed more light on the issue and when JetCat will resume sending out this turbine. I'm sure they are working the problems but I've heard very little with respect to the expected delivery dates. I'm very anxious to get the XLC in the air when it's delivered as well. I'm trying to be patient but there's a lot of cash riding on this build, the sooner the better.

I'm also wondering if the new gearbox will have a limitation on the available power? Dang, sounds like a real heli issue...

DKTek, Where are you getting your imformation from?
JetCat will never answer, unless they have an answer, to your question, very frustrating
Question, what is an XLC?

XLC
is the camera version of the XLV, it has giant legs

and a 3 bladed tail.

havent heard anything about gear boxes failing, i did have one go wrong, but that was a bearing problem and was sorted and replaced under warranty.

You wont get a reply from them as they shut for a holiday period, i think it is until the end of August..

Hope you get it sorted

The only problem at the moment is a clutch problem for the larger machines - could you be getting confused with this ?

but this was only a problem on the PHT3 not the turbine setup you are using...

Modtron did a post in another thread all about this problem..

this is the only problem i am aware of, and it only affects a certain number of turbines, not all.

The SPT5-H uses a straight through gearbox drive system - not a 90 degree gearbox.

No known issues with any bearings at all as their is no side load applied. The output shaft is either mounted with a gear or a prop for the Turbo Prop option.

I have one fitted in a Zyclone and it's absolutely perfect and very quiet.

This is also the version that is required for the XL-C Vario Carrier Machine. You also have the choice of 3 selectable rpm ranges for the head speed.

There were some previous issues with bearings on the 90 degree version, but these have now been sorted.
The other issue is with the PHT3-3 system, but again, that has now been sorted.

JetCat are also back from their holiday, if any one needs to contact them.

I must have done something different, as I find it very easy for contact and get replies from JetCat

Yeah, both Roman and Max always reply to any email I've sent them in 24 hours or less. They are truly the source to go to when it comes to any technical questions with JetCat engines. Have you sent them any messages thus far, DKTek?

Hey guys, JetCat USA mentioned that the second stage blades are getting a redesign when I called to order and Peter Wales mentions the bearing issue on his home page for the KA-52 build. Either way, I have to waite for the newer version to be shipped. Hopefully soon.

I haven't e-mailed JetCat germany because my initial info came from the USA office. I believe that I should do just that Nick. Thanks for the Kick In The Azzz.

The new SPT5-H is being shipped and has thicker blades on the power turbine wheel to accommodate the resonances which were causing failures on earlier models. This only seemed to happen in heli versions or prop versions run too fast.

Amyway, mine are running fine now and I have confidence in them once again.

Thanks guys, I'll call JC USA and put my order in. I'm kind of surprised that they didn't notify me as to the availability. I bought an SPHT-5 from them a year ago for the XLV. I'd of thought they'd appreciate accepting my money again because they knew a returning customer was eagerly waiting for this turbine, a second high dollar turb at that. Both two stagers. What's up with that? Anyway, time to spend some dough$$.The beatings will continue until morale improves...

Sometimes those guys at JC USA are so busy I think they just forget to follow up. They have forgotten to call me a few times.

And while Bob and the others there know an awful lot, their are times when the guys in Germany know more about a particular issue and have the most current first hand info.

Roger that Seattle Helo! I couldn't call them so I sent an e-mail.

What sucks is that Bob had the exhaust section on my SPH-5 ceramic coated and I'm hoping to have this one done as well. Problem is I'm in Iraq now and I'll only be home a month beginning September to October. If the turb has to be shipped from Germany, there won't be time to have that done and sent to the house by the time I get home to start the build of the XLC.

I'm hoping that gets in as well. I'm still waiting for Joe to bill my card for that one too. Sux having the funds to get what I need but having to wait on suppliers, especially when they were requested almost three months ago! Normally it's no problem but I'm on a rather unruley time crunch that both have been informed of from the beginning. I never thought it would be so hard to spend well over $10 grand on a R/C Heli. You'd think that supplier's would jump on an order like this...ugh! Maybe these items aren't rare enough.

, Sorry for venting like this. I guess the dessert heat gets to me a little along with the stresses of work.

My fingers are crossed on this one....

No doubt. Well, most importantly, stay safe out there and I hope you'll have the parts together in time.

One problem is tha tthe Germans like to close up shop for August. I know of one customer for SPT5-H's who has an order in for a few weeks and is being quoted September delivery.

Good luck in getting yours while you are here, and stay safe and thanks for being over there.

If you dont look like getting one in time, send me an e-mail, I'll check the junk box out and see whats in there

Yeah, JC USA sent me a reply stating that they too are waiting for the turbs to arrive. They say mid to late September as Mr. Wales has stated. They also said the ceramic coating can be applied even after the turbine has been ran. I can't give my exact flyout date here but maybe with luck, it'll still work out. Although, I won't need the turbine right away (I assume) as I can still enjoy the airframe build if Joe H. can pull that one off as well. Delays from Germany, the price of excellence and high hopes to send products accross the ocean.

I assume that Mr. Wales received his direct from Germany or another outlet aside from JetCat USA.

I live very close to you Sir, maybe a visit would be in order when I get home...that is unless you're out of town enjoying your machines. I've promised a visit to meet RotorGeorge in Tampa as well, maybe after that meeting. (George is building Bell fuses for large scale helis like the XLV, check out his builds in the scale section. Impressive!)

Still no word yet from JetCat. It's mid September now. Good news is that Joe says the XLC should be here in a few days though.

I sent JC Germany an e-mail a couple weeks ago and no reply yet. Hopefully things are going well.

I will be seeing the JetCat guy's in Germany from Friday through Saturday at the Jet Power show.
I've already got engines to collect from Max, so I will ask him about the current situation with SPT5-H's.
