A beginners Dream! If your new youll like this
I discovered that a man, "Finless bob" is his username on helifreak has hosted Hundred and hundreds of videos.

If you have a heli, he has the FULL build for it + All the setups and tuning.

I was just made aware of this and coming from an area with not a lot of heli help close by, this is the next best thing (VISUAL LEARNING). You guys should check it out, if you dont already know.

Yea hes been around a while. Bob is the best. I am building a Trex 600 Nitro bird right now and he has a whole series of videos on building it from opening the box to breaking in the engine/first flights. He is a true asset to the RC Heli community. Also, welcome to the hobby! I am still pretty new myself but there is always someone here to help if ya ever need it.Procrastinators of the world unite ... tomorrow.

Yea im using his trex 500 videos as a reference right now.

Man he makes it easy. I refer to the videos rather than second guessing my decisions.

No kidding. I use the videos more than the manual. I just go over the manual after the video to make sure I didn't miss anything.Procrastinators of the world unite ... tomorrow.

Do a search if you want to know what happened (here and on helifreak). You will see the whole story.I might not be able to fly well, but I can crash with the best of them.

Let's see, one of my Panteras? nope, did a search
um, how about my Shuttle? nope, did a search
ok, well at least my MX400! nope! did a search

ok, well maybe another heli I've thought about:
Kinetic - nope.
Knight - oh! close. He did do one knight variation out of three I know of.

I think he just picks the most trendy stuff that he want's to own, not all helis. Yes, I've used one of his vids, found it helpful. Just sayin' he's not an omnipotent heli deity.

ps. was thinking about making a comment about my shuttle being one of the most popular/trendy models of the 90s, decided it might arguably be the hawk; nope, no vids on the hawk.

He didn't start making videos until after the hawk or shuttle were no longer popular.

And as for the other less popular birds, he does this for free. Nobody pays him to do it. Would you buy every variety of every model ever made with cash from your own pocket to produce these videos?

Yup Bob's videos are great for both beginner and experienced, I think on each build video even for the one's I don't have, I have learned something new to help with my current builds. They help with everyday maintenance also.Brian

I could be wrong, but I imagine he gets a pretty good deal on some of the stuff he produces vids for. Vendors know how popular the Bob's vids are. It's great advertising and vendors are usually willing to pay a bit for it.

Yep, in fact I believe they send him pre-production kits (eg: N700) at no cost to him. But every heli maufacturer doesn't do this, so the ones that MaxAdventure listed obviously didn't.

I never understood this whole concept,if you learn to do everythng yourself you wont need a video or after a while the manual, its not that hard really, once you get the basic concepts down.I have seen LOTS of times where guys were at the field having problems and you ask them a question as why something is set up that way and they say "I dont know thats the way BOB did it in the vid",thats completely retarded, now you are stuck with no PC at the field. If you learn to set up your own helis you will never be in that position.those vids also make for a whole group of stupid pilots as noone knows whats going on with their helis,if you learn the how and why you will never need a vid,and rarely will you need a manual, its not nuclear physics, its a model helicopterCompass helis Support Team

The OP may have stretched it by implying that Bob has build videos for all helis, this of course is not correct, but his setup videos are quite generic and apply to almost any RC helis (oh, wait, the Blade Cx is not covered).

Many people have no access to flying clubs or more experienced fliers, and setup is a HUGE step toward a flyable heli. Joining parts A and B with bolt C and hex nut D can be done following the manual, but setup is the real challenge. Bob addresses that beautifully.

Is ANYONE ELSE doing the amount of free videos for the variety of different helis Bob does? Nope. Is ANYONE ELSE doing build videos for all the current halis, since Bob does not cover *all* helis? Nope.
Is ANYONE ELSE doing as many setup videos? Nope.

Of course Bob is not "an omnipotent heli deity" (is anyone?), but his videos are truly helpful for ANY beginner trying to learn how to properly setup an RC eCCPM helicopter. And they are free, too, kind of rare in today's world.

from experience i have to agree. my first heli was not covered in his vids but i took it as a generic format and learned so much. in a rural area with only rr to help i turned to his vids. i learned how to setup pitch and throttle curves (basically) enough to get my bird in the air after months of crashing and not having a clue. there are a few basics that seem common knowledge now, but i think we forget how frustrating it can be on your own as a beginner. his vids made my first successes possible. highly recommend them. if he tried making a vid on every heli ever made he'd never get to fly and never leave his shop. i found his lamens terms and explanations very helpful. i also didn't look like quite the idiot (though still the idiot) my first time at the field.fly it like you stole it

Amen!

Bob's vid that helped me was the CC HV85. I have yet to hear anybody say CC has an easy setup instruction. Bob took the time to chat with a CC rep and get some info not published. I really appreciated that.

Again, my point, and I think fenderstrat said in his own way; Don't fall into thinking it's all you need.

I said specifically I wasn't attacking or trying to diminish what Finless does, just trying to say to those trying to learn, don't stop at the vids, look other places to have more well-rounded knowledge.

Brunobl - I am in agreement!
(oddly, I have yet to find someone local to assist with my heli's through the years, so it's always been the 'net for me)

agreed. it's only a starting point. there's only one guy in my near vacinity who flys and he's been very helpful. his input is priceless. the vids that i have watched were good only for basic knowlege and not in depth understanding. for me this is only gained through hands on and helpful friends. in this hobby one can never have to many resources. you guys on rr and the vids and buddies who fly are all almost equally important, but hands on and local help to me have been the most benefit.fly it like you stole it

Hey Max,

Like you, I'm on my own. I did live in Rio until a few months ago where there were other modelers, but the first heli I assembled was the gasoline-powered Spectra (I did fly a pre-owned Raptor 50 for a year, first). As far as I could tell, that was the only gasser flying in Rio so I didn't have much help outside those amazing Internet forums (and Bob's videos).

Now that I'm in another, much smaller town, it is even worse. I believe I'm the only modeler in town. I recently added a T-Rex 450SE V2 to the fleet, so went back to nearly square one, needing to learn the basics of those high-performance electric helis.

To this day, after 3 years since getting into helis, I continue to learn on the forums. The videos alone, helpful as they are, would not have cut it of course. It is the asking, the answering, the two-way communication that clears all up.
Brunobl - I am in agreement!
We're cool!
