I did just this morning. I found that having any "Delay" cause it to do bad things. So I zero'd it as JC instructed and then it does quite well. It acts very similar to the older ESky HH gyro but it maybe holds a tiny bit better in a hover. I still need to fine tune it as I kicks out pretty bad when I grab lots of cyclic right now but overall it is working pretty darn good for a $30 - Chris

Great glad to hear it.. Yes not to bad for $30.00, I know it is not like a 401 but what the heck. I fly my bigger heli's more so 30 bucks is not bad at all.

Glad you got it ..

How do you fix that (mine goes to the left with a strong change to the throttle)?

I still have the stock gyro installed (I have the one from this page, but it isn't compatible with the stock TX),
and from what you say,
I am assuming this isn't necessarily a gyro problem.

I've just been pressing up and a little to the right every time I shoot off.

If a heli turns counter clockwise when you bump it up, that can be any of three things. The first is the tail not having enough authority to compensate for the added torque, the second is a setup issue and the third is a slow tail/gyro servo. If you can get your tail to hold steady in a stable hover and you have the gain to the point just before it wags, then your tail is setup pretty well. If when you pop it up a few feet fast, the tail kicks out, then you have one of the other issues. Most likely on smaller helis the kick out is from a lack of tail authority. Meaning the tail can not stop the rotation created by the added torque. The easiest way to fix that is by increasing both the amount of air the tail is moving and to speed things up. Higher head speeds will increase tail rotor speed and better/bigger tail blades will help move more air. Faster servos will speed up the response and better gyros will help in lots of ways but mostly to increase accuracy and speed things up.

Okay I went a little deeper than I intended there but maybe that will give you some things to look at.

Hey TJ,
I just got my dx6i today,
all installed and a coupla brief hovers to test things (I also installed this gyro).

Which is head holding mode,
Light on,
or light off?

Because the light off mode works pretty well,
but when I flip the switch and the light is on it drifts horribly,
and has even spazzed a coupla times.

And the booklet says something about revolution mixing to counteract the sudden torque twisting the tail,
do you know anything about that?

You dont need revo mix when in HH mode. Set the revo to inhibited. With the light on it should be in heading hold. Did you set it up mechanically where there is no drift in rate mode (light off). If so, start increasing the gain in HH (light on) until the tail wags (moves back and forth rapidly). Back the gain down slightly until this tendency stops and you should be good to go. You may have to add a little trim to the tail to completely eliminate drift, but this is common with all lower cost gyros.

Good Luck,
Dave

Well I have it set up (mechanically without trims) to hover stable in normal mode.

I tried bumping up the gain slowly , and somewhere around 70% the servo justs drifts all the way to one side and sits there.

I can run it ok at 50- 60% and the tail will do fine, for awhile,
then it drifts.

I am about to give up on this gyro,
all this drift is killing me.

I get it set up without trim,
and then after a little while in hover it drifts again.

I don't know what was wrong,
but I bumped the gain to 100,
and it held great.

It would kind of backlash after a turn though,
I assume thats the wag.

So I just kept going down slowly,
and now it works.

Now that its dark out,
ARGGGGh!

I had a problem with it doing weird things when I first started playing with it. I then tried setting the delay all the way to "-". I set it up in rate mode until it held ok and then switched it to HH mode and trimmed the tail until it held. I can't remember when the light is on or off. I will look tomorrow. I will also look at my radio settings too.

As a note I am running a s3154 servo, which is the same as a s3114 in analog mode.

Have faith though, you will get it going

Well I took it out this morning,
It's working pretty ok now.

Save for the fact that I have to re-trim every time I fly (no the tail servo isn't loose).

But,
I am totally not used to head locking.

Every time I went in for a nice smooth banked turn,
it felt like it was fighting me,
which of course it was,
I am just so used to the weak ass gyro going with the flow.

I you turn the gain up too high, it will impede tail movement. It is a process of adjusting thing to find out where ti all works the best.- Chris

I think I got it pretty good now,
I was running the gain super low because with the gain high the servo would just drift to one side while sitting there.

And it didn't seem a good Idea to fly it like that.

Got her good now,
even found a way to kill the temperature drift.

I took a thin strip of aluminum pop can, and bent it into a
U shape with wings

The two wings stick out the sides a bit,
and the u dip goes down against and is glued to the chip.

Ok,
this gyro is starting to give me headaches

It's been pretty good for awhile now,
but recently it's acting really loose.

What do you guys have your two pots at ?
