I really wish I had known the feeling of flying with a Spartan... I've spent so much on gyros, from the 401b clone, the true 401, the 770's... I've been so much happier flying the Raptor with the spartan, it ALWAYS does what I tell it now, and my tic tocs areso much better without the tail swinging around... I even flew backward fast into the wind yesterday, and the heli stayed locked... did a flip while flying backward into the wind, and it was perfectly straign, couldnt ever do that before, it always went crazy from the wind...

one word, AWESOME!

I found a deal yesterday on another Skookum flybarless unit, local guy selling it used, so I'm gonna grab it for the Raptor...

Having fun flying and have my 600e almost ready for the air again!
I havent even thought about flying a 450 in quite awhile.

Well, I was on a streak... almost 4 gallons through the Raptor 50 since any mishaps... Monday night I decided just one more flight, and had just taken off, flipped to idle up, and on my first tic-toc, popped a link off the upper mixer arm. Blade hit the boom, and that was it, she fell from the sky. It was only about 15 feet up or so, and I did hit throttle hold before it hit the ground, however, the damage was done

I had to replace the main shaft, feathering shaft, rudder push rod, flybar, rudder servo horn, boom, belt, all the plastic ball links on the head, Carbsmart temp sensor, blades, landing struts and skids, and the canopy was so scratched up I ended up repainting it.

I had to replace my custom remote glow heater wire, it was cut up...

I had to move my Voltage regulator, noticed it was getting oily stuff inside the shrinkwrap from the exhaust...

But, it's pretty well ready to go, just needs a quick test hover to make sure I set everything up right... I even turned over the pitch servo to use the 3D point on the pitch arm...

I'll be flying tonight!

Yesterday I sat in my office all day, looking out the window at a perfect flying day, excited because I was gonna go fly the Raptor after work... This would be the first flight after my rebuild...

Time crept along slowly, I was busy, but it just seemed to creep by... finally, 5pm hits, off I go, the car is already packed, straight up to the field... unpack everything, fuel up the heli, radio on, heli on, glow heater plugged in, reach for the starter... uhm, hmm, it's still at home....

crap! This sucks... I borrowed a starter, but it wouldn't turn over my motor, weird, oh well, maybe his battery is dead... plug into my flight box, still no go... Loosened the glow plug, tried again, still won't turn over...

oh oh, I'm thinking maybe my engine somehow siezed when the link popped the other day and it crashed

I pulled the glow plug out, and watched fuel drain out the hole, so I cranked it over with the starter, blew out the excess fuel, then tightened up the glow plug, and it started right up...

Man, since I correctly set the idle needle, this thing sounds like a purring kitten at idle...

Anyhow, off to the flight line, flew a tank... awesome... the new MAH blades feel so much more powerfull than the TIG blades I was using from Hobby City... I was able to hold my tic tocs at the same altitude now, and the blades had a nice sound to them too...

I didn't want to keep borrowing a starter, so I just had the one flight, but at least I know that Raptor is as good as new, well, better actually

Tonight, after staring out my office window all day I'll go back up, but this time I've made sure to pack my starter...

hay sonny yes there is a differance i to have done the 401 and 770 and i now have nothing but spartin gyros and the best part is people are dumping them on here to buy the new 520 futaba gyro for cheap. but the bad part for them is after thay fly the 520 thay are selling them to get another spartin lol. totally locked in and firm ware is upgradeable in the internet and you dont even have to remove the gyro from the heli just connect it to yhe computer through the usb link and away you go.

I am selling 3 770's and will buy a spartan for my 450... That is one awesome gyro... it gives you so much confidence to know the tail will not do anything you didnt tell it too..

wish i had the money to buy some gyros from you odam, but i've just ordered another tz frenzy kit. my crash cost was $160 and the kit cost $250 so i decided to order another kit to have some spares. i also crashed my rappy so while i'm waiting on a heli and some parts i figure i'll do what i always wanted to do and fix and paint my own canopy for the tz. i'm doing it on a poor boy budget with supplies i already have on hand because this is a junk canopy otherwise. so here we go: i'm using 6 min. epoxy instead of filler because i have it on hand.

Good luck with the canopy, I've never tried fixing one, although I have a cracked glass canopy for my Voyager, perhaps I should give it a go... Sorry to hear about the Raptor... I've been pretty lucky lately, I haven't crashed mine in over 4 gallons now other than when a link popped off doing tic tocs, and that was about $200 including a set of $80 blades...

I demolished my SuperCub last weekend, the HobbyZone foam one... dove into a pile of rocks... I think I had a loose connection somewhere or something, cause it just started glitching, and then dove in... I picked up a new wing and tail, the fuselage had to be ordered, the LHS says they should have it today. I tried something new, I covered the wing with covering film. It turned out pretty good, and is white with flourescent orange trim. I cut ailerons into it as well. I think the covering film adds some structural strength too. I may consider covering the fuse when it gets here too...

I've been flying my Enigma (combat plane) a lot lately, so I'm looking forward to getting the cub back in the air, and my new FCO2 camera should be here today. I may put some gyros in the cub to help keep it steady for AP....

I think the problem with the SuperCub may have been loose wires... I rewired, and resoldered every connection, so we'll see tomorrow...

I went to get my fuse last night, and they screwed up the order, and didn't have it, so he went to check and HobbyZone is out of stock till the end of the month...

Mad dash to call every hobby (and craft? why do they call themselves hobby shops?) shop in town, found a place with 5 in stock... so drove for an hour to get one...

I covered the whole plane with Covering Film, it turned out awesome.... looks waay better than it did before... will post a pic later when I get one...

I was flying my 450 yesterday and suddenly the motor quit... I hate trying to auto the 450, especially if there is no wind! Anyhow, one broken landing strut, and found out one of the bullet connectors came loose on the motor... So this morning I covered all the connectors with heat shrink once they were connected.... now I'll have to cut em apart... at least they'll stay connected...

I got a 100A Super Simple ESC from HC yesterday, so wired it up in the HK-T500 and found out that when I melted the 60A ESC, it melted some wires in the motor winding, cause the inside of the motor just turned bright red and smoked when I throttled up... A friend has an extra motor, same one, so I'll borrow his, and hope to fly it tomorrow...

I was flying the Raptor the other day, lots of low inverted hovering and stuff, and noticed when I landed the last time that I had half a tank of fuel, and a very nearly empty header tank! That would suck inverted 3 inches off the ground! I replaced the klunk line, since it was deteriorated to the point the klunk fell off! I also picked up some new fuel hose, will replace all that later today just for the sake of it...

Oh my.... I bought it in (checking YouTube videos) March... It had 4 gallons through it at that time... I've put maybe 7 or 8 gallons at least through it since then, dunno how many flights that is... probably close to 100?

I did put a new clunk line in it when I got it, and new fuel lines...

thanx odam. i should've taken more time with it but i always have a vision of canopies as a lawn dart when i'm cleaning and now painting them. i get the same feeling laying monokote on airplanes. as soon as i get it perfect it'll crash and burn. i slapped it on a raptor to see how she'll look on a heli. the tz is a little bigger but here she is.
