Boy do I love that 500!!! I noticed though that my head speed is way too fast for hover, I switch it to iddle up 1 and the motor actually slowed down a lot, but it stayed in the same spot so I definitively have to fix the throttle curve!!

Hey Odam, Not a lot of wind here so far, but it is supposed to pick up a little because of Lake Michigan. I don't know how it will affect you tomorrow, but it is mighty cold not even 10 degrees at mid day.
I see the wind is expected to pick up to about 20mph. Brrrr!
I wont be flying outside thats for sure. I may try to hover in my basement!

OH-6 is there a torque tube on the tail of your 500?
Those things look like they would be great on all these heli's.

nope it's belt driven, do you think the torque tube would be better? I was looking for one just to try it, but I'm not sure if it'll feel any different

I saw a review awhile back, I think it was on trex tuning about them. The reviewer liked it a lot! I Think the Trex 500 comes with them now.

First Tic-Tocs!
WooHoo!

I went out at lunch time and since there was no wind, I decided to try a tic-toc. First I did some backflips, they are still a little messy. Then I did some forward flips, and was amazed at how well they turned out, you can see them in the video, I think a forward flip will be my first indoor trick Then I got brave and went up high, and tried a tic-toc. I did about as good as I do in the sim, which is not very good at all, he he. I get about 2 or 3 pumps, then it starts to twist on me, and I have to bail... but heck, at least I tried, and didn't crash... just have to practice more on the sim.

The forward flips and the toc-tocs felt exactly like they do on the sim, but the backflips are a lot harder than the sim.

It's still -16C, and barely a breeze...

Watch at YouTube

I also fired up the Voyager with 2 of my Zippy 3S 2200mah packs on it in parallel, and it seemed to have a lot more power than with the Apogee packs. Unfortunately the blade tracking was so bad, I spent 20 minutes trying to adjust them, and gave up so I could fly the 400. You can't just pick up a 500 and spin the blades up in your hand That would be too easy...

On the torque tubes, I think if you were doing very hard core 3D you might notice a difference, but for us mere mortals, its probably just a nice to have... My answer is not qualified, since I've never flown a Torque Tube either, but I wish my Blade CP Pro had one
Dang that thing was squirrely when I tried flying it in the gym the other night... I need to fly it more often to get back in practice flying a tail again...

Get one of those cheap $35 machines from hong kong... I'm waiting till after chinese new year when production should catch up to demand, some have already shipped, people seem ok with them... they are supposedly TRex 450 clones, and will use trex 450 parts, not sure which model, but the trex with the aluminum frame? Anyhow, at $35 a pop, get 3 or 4, and go nuts with them

that would be a good idea but than again you'll need servos, esc and motor, RX, gyro and tail servo so by the time you get all that stuff it's probably not going to seem like a good idea to just smash them into the floor....

I rather get the blade 400 and get maybe even just a gy 240 for it and a 9650 for the tail..

Yeah, true, but since I put the HS65MG servos and the 9257 on mine, I've slammed it into the ground every which way, and although I've broken the tail servo case once, and the elevator servo case three times, thats the only damage to the electronics.

Put the cheap $3 blue 9g servos in it and just buy spares...

But yeah, a blade 400 is an awesome machine for throwing around.... but you still have to upgrage the servos and gyro, and if you go digital, you'll want at least a BEC, if not a new ESC as well... and that fugly canopy... really, all you;ll keep is the frame, might as well get one for $35 huh? that sonix motor I got was only twenty something bucks... and a receiver is fairly cheap, but those are all re-usable parts...

ah just got back from running and it feels good I don't drink or smoke but I think exercising and heli's are up there in that category

You're right odam, last time when I fixed my friends 400 I really didn't like(hated) how slow the servos were. Might aswell get the $35 dollar one and put some nice equipment on it...

I went with the Blade 400 because it got me into a 450 size heli with a good radio, and everything ready to fly... 5 months after buying it, the only thing original remaining is the plastic bits, and then even those have probably all been replaced at one time or another

hay oh-6 you dont need a 400 to do this stuff you already have a dedicated 3d machine with the 500. lol why wate its only money and parts. so i think i am going to try some stuff this weekend with my 600 after we get the motor broke in properly. but definatly going to do some forward flight with my mx 400 and see if i can get it to smooth out a bit.

I don't want to crash the 500 it's too nice to risk it I'd rather buy another heli with the money that I would spend on parts for the 500!

well I finaly finished the paint on the Hawk, guess it's a "rainbow" Hawk now it didnt turn out as good as I wanted, the lines arn't very strate. but it looks ok from 10' away and it should help with orientation.

do unto others then stand back and watch.
