Richard, the reason why most guys went for the head,is because it is the appropiate size for .50 scale helis The one's you refer to are 60-90 size

Actually the rotor heads from Hirobo, Graupner and Midland all work fine on a 50 size. I have used them myself on 600 and raptors. I even tried my three bladed head from "OF" on my 600 and ran 550 blades... perfect. I have been experimenting with different heads for about 6 years now and the 50 size helis perform perfectly provided you run a lower KV motor.Richard

Is it just me, I thought all Helicopters flew in 3D......Hmmmm?

No doubting that they work right. The issue is they look too big on many .50/.60 and 600 scale models.Cheers - Boyd

Before you guys write off my suggestions, you really should go to this site and look at these heads. They are very appropriate for 50 size. I have had the three and four bladed head. again the part numbers are CN1113, CN1114, and CN1115 50 size and CN1103, CN1104, and CN1105 for 30 size. they are all on the same page with the swash plates and drivers. Vario heads are pretty close in size to the Lightening and you can get single bolt grips from vario as well.
Here is Midlands site, you should look at these, they are not the Century heads available from Century USA and Heliworld... all done.

It was the reference to the OF head that I was commenting on. I have had three of their multi blade heads and they are really out of scale of the "too large" end on things to look right on any 600 Scale model that I have seen. Your suggestions are of value and when Heli-World finally offers the .30 size heads in the States, I'm sure they will be a major improvement over the previous Diamond/Century heads.

Well I have received my new 5 blade head from scaleflying.com. Their rotorhead is somewhat heavier than the lightning head and a tad bigger, but the quality of the rotorhead is day and night !

One thing I really like is that the follower is straight which gives you the option of having your links straight or at a degree, where as with the lightning it is impossible to have the links straight up. I should have pictures up later on today.

scaleflying 5 blade rotor head
I get into their web page, I already watched the rotor head, but it seems to be the same as the lighting heli one.

And by the way, how good is performing the new version (V2) of the lighting heli penta-blade rotor head???

Well folks I am about to take the plunge myself and order a V2... It seems like there is no V3... My understanding is that "V3" is an error...

As a winter project I plan to add a 5 blade system to my old MH-6 Little Bird... First multi-blade project...

It looks like the V2 should work OK and be cost effective...

Plan to use Semi blades...

Any reason to stop??? Thanks

Hard to be sure since these are perspective CAD views, but it looks like you have a hard interference between the dome or hat and the pitch links on the five blade head. What are the dimensions on your fenestron design?Cheers - Boyd

I have just got my 600 size Penta head as well. Not the best quality but for $120 you can live with a bit of cleanup and bearing change. There I was inverted nothing on the clock but the makers name and only the joystick in my hand

Hi avalon...

Do you have some play in the swash bearing??? Can you tell me what bearing you plan to swap and where to get it?

I like the basic design and value, just needs some fine tuning...

Thanks

Looking at the pics, the first thing I would change is the blade bolts. I would replace them for properly shanked bolts.

For the money they are not too bad. Mt swash plate was OK The main problem I had with my one was a crunchy bearing. Turned out to not to be the bearing but the feathering spindle, these are fixed to the head and it looks like some butcher hacked my ones off with an old hacksaw blade. Once this was fixed all went well. For $160 for a 5 blade head the grips and center hub is worth that alone, so as long as you do not mind cleaning a few of the components up a bit I think they are OK.

Throw away the follower that comes with it (very loose, bad design) and replace it with one from from "Starwood".

Do a little tweaking, and it works great. I really like it, but it is not plug and play...

After purchasing a new follower and tweaking, it is still a great deal.

These folks hire a quality engineer and they have one great product!!!
