Yes, flew today. Somewhat of a sucessfull and painful day.
I did some warm up flights to get my backwards flight back in the swing. Then I did my first backwards loop. I'll call it sucessful cause depending on where you were standing, it might have looked like a loop. I realize that a backwards loop is really hard on a gyro and when going full speed backwards and moving that first 1/4 loop upwards, the tail was blowing out on me. I then was able to do it 2 times a little slower but the tail was still comming out on me a little.

I flew a plank and did a 450 flight inverted to get back into the action.
Then the bad happened. Winds picked up and I took the 500 out. Less than 30 seconds into the flight, I lost power, I was going to try to auto it down then not sure exactly what happened but it felt like I did not have control. Then all I remember is the tail swinging around as it hit the grass runway hard.

This is a spektrum aR6200 Rx. It was in my EXI 500 when it did something similar. I had pulled it out and put it in a 450 (without the satellite rx connected) and flew it about 20 flights without incident. Gonna send it back to Horizon. At first I thought my motor had died or the ESC went (temporarily had the Turnigy 60a on). But upon inspection, the maingear is chewed up yet the gear mesh looks good on the good teeth so I know the motor did not back out. I pulled the motor back and the ESC was working. All 3 cyclic servo gear are broken and my tail servo needs wiring repair.

Damage was pretty bad. Worse crash I've had in a long time I think in terms of # of things damaged.
Torque tube and boom are mangled up really nasty like. I tossed the tail parts on the grass that my buddy picked upfor the photo.

The good thing is that I did not have the Align CF blades that came with it on at the time.

Thx HKV,
Looks like all I need are gears and fin. I had everything else in my spare parts bin.
Total damage was:
boom
flybar
mainshaft
feathering shaft
blades
maingear
skids
boom brace
front umbrella gear
flybar
3 DS510 servo gearsets
torque tube
vertical fin
About $75 in damage (hmm, same cost as a new AR6200)

On another note. I did some more backwards loops this morning. I could not resist the temptation to throw a GY520 onto the EXI 450 to see if it would not blow out on me like the GY48V did. Well, did some this morning and sure enough, it blew out. I realized that what I was doing was flying 3/4 collective on my approach, then hitting full collective as I was pulling back. That was too much and the combinded torque compensation needed and trying to fight the weathervaning was too much for either gyro. I slowed things down and stopped gunning it as I was pulling back. Instead tried to get a faster straight approach, then let off on the collective as I was pulling (well, pushing) back into the loop. It was smaller and slower but more round and controlled. Did 2 flights of nothing but the backwards loops till I was comfortable with it. I'll I have some slightly longer tail blades I'd like to try before putting the GY48V back in.

I hate to hog the thread but it's been mostly good weather here this week and after crashing the Trex 500, I've been keeping a hat cam on nearly every flight.

Weather here sucks.
It has been raining, and hailing, and frozen rain, and even a bit of snow.

What's up with that?

I just got my heli back together. I was out flying with Jim and i was doing a pre-flight check of everything and a peace broke on me. so i got that fixed tonight. I took it out side and it was already pitch black out and i flew it. I pumped it a few time and a hover then i put it away. Tomorrow i am going flying with Jim at "area 146".
I want to get video tomorrow of a good inverted hover. Get you guys some video of some resent flying.

I flew this morning with Spencer and seven other guys. I flew my EPP Extra 260 four times and put a flight in each on my Mini Titan and EXI 500. I'll tell you what, the EXI 500 has some serious "cool factor" going on .

Flew a guy's TREX600N he is still in the hovering stages of the game. But I can truly say 15% nitro just lacks power. My Raptor with fuse and all has about the same power. Both OS Hyper 50's.

But man he has the best electronics cyclic is lightning fast.

No Really I am the club President!!!

what an AWESOME day/night of flying.weather was perfect tonight just a light calm breeze.Last night I went over the MT from top to bottom just as a check over.Made sure servos were 90,leveled all arms ect.If I take the time to make sure both blades are at EXACTLY 0 pitch at mid stick,I almost never even have to track the blades once off the bench, gotta love it.Added a bit more cyclic throw and the MT is flying great.flew 12 packs between the afternoon and after dinner and each flight was GREAT.what a perfect way to finish the weekend

Now if I could get my 50N dialed in like this I would be really happy, but I did make some progress on it this weekend, and I'm getting there
