well my straty ate the dirt today for no apparent reason. about half way through my tank after some ff flight in stunt i switched to normal mode (about 1650) hovering around 4 feet off the deck and maybe 8 feet in front of me, it just slams down into the dirt! causing a boom strike, it totally yanked the boom out of the chopper. crazy thing is the rest of the heli landed on its skids. frames fine, a few striped servos. just still wonerin what happened to make it slam down like that. im still on a pcm jr 9303. im thinkin it was a glitch, would i be money ahead switchin to a 2.4 ghz system?

I'm still running PCM, sounds like the heli went into failsafe, what are you settings, chances are, everything set to neutral. I am not sure, but was your pitch setting at 0 degrees or -ve 10 degrees? the latter would definately cause the heli to accelerate groundward.

Am tempted to change to 2.4 but waiting for to know that there are no crazy issues lurking around the corner.

Regards,

Pars

Hi

I'm using a 14MZ on G3 receiver (mode a - the fast one) in both my stratusses.

How big is our gap between the fan and cltuch?

I just switched my Stratus to 2.4 on my 14MZ, although I had no problems with the 2048 pcm 5014 receiver on mode A, it is still a nice feeling to be relieved of always being ready for a lockout in the back of your head. In my opinion the upgrade is worth all the money it cost just for that piece of mind.

Before I left for the sand box, I had been flying my Straty w/ a 10x on sPCM. I had no issues or radio hits to speak of.

I fly in Indianapolis and there are not many heli friendly clubs so parks and school yards get a lot of attention. That having been said, I did start flying a T-rex on Spektrum and loved every bit of it. Apart from feeling a little more connected with the model, that is piece of mind you can't buy. Knowing that you are not going to get a radio hit or glitches from RF noise, is a pretty nice feeling. I would go for it and it really isn't that terribly expensive all things considered.

I'm still using G3's and they are working fine. I've seen two things that will cause a lock out. 1) Bad clutch dampeners or no fan gap. 2) Cracks in the aluminum frame rails. I chased that one down last year, and the only way I saw it is when I took the old one out. And it had not broken all the way either... Kind of strange.

Good luck!

I'm still running PCM on mine, so far so good I hope it stays that way

If I had the $$$, I'd probably go to 2.4 just for the peace of mind

sorry for taking a while to get back to you guys. as for the first question i actually did set the fail safe for the radio but i did the throttle only ill check the other channels and get back to you. second question the fan gap is .026" and the dampners are the new hard ones with approximately 5 gallons thru them. ive had glitching problems before but never that bad! before they where intermitent and i would regain control. i thought i found the problem it was the bearing for the front tranny input shaft (the one in the center bearing block housing) had backed out and was slightly rubbing against the front of the t/r pinion. i would like to switch over to the 2.4 that jr has but i have herd a few bad things about it, latentcy mostly (im running atx 94758z). the new atx 8 channel sounds extremely promising and the cost is awesome! but from what i saw its a fuggly radio!! but then again if it works thats all that matters.

Laurens: How long will the clutch dampeners last Wayne?
it will depend on how smooth your engine are running.
I noticed if your idle is running unsmooth, the dampers will break before....

It is easy to hear when the dampers are gone.
There comes a "metalic" sound from the clutch area.
My dampers is good for >500 flights....

What sort of power supply are you running for your gear? Reason I ask is because Ive had a regulator go bad on me intermittently causing control glitches. You might want to check that out also.

im still running PCM. I had a lockout lucky it was on the table and found out to be a bad servo. I wonder if 2.4 would have caught the issue? What is the fail safe with 2.4?
